Hey Landyzoners,
I need some help please? I have a Range Rover Sport Autobiography 3.0L, L494. The deployable side step on the driver side seems to have a mind of its own...It doesn't go all the way in.... I took it to the main dealers and they said it needs a side step fixing bracket which comes with the motor. They're quoting over £600 for it and about £400 for the labour to fit it. Can I get some pointers on where I can order this to get it fitted around the Milton Keynes area? Having had a quick look online it looks like you can pick one up for between £250 -£300 for the kit. Trouble is I'm not sure if it will be the right part for my car. I'll appreciate any guidance Incan get. Thanks

Hi GStuart,
Thanks for your response. No, I haven't got a part number yet but can obtain it and revert.

Thanks.

ur so welcome , if u do find one please let us know as might be able to find one , alas know there extensive , think genuine are around £1300

Plus if u get chance would u be so kind to take a picture of the passenger side bracket please , assume there handed but then at least gives us an idea of what the bracket looks like, many thks

Fingers crossed we will be able to find a solution for u

Are these the brackets plse, showing RH front and rear , if it is correct that rules out getting them made due to there complexity, also doesn’t look like the motor comes with these unless there hidden

out of curiosity and just a few ideas , if maybe there’s an electronic calibration adjustment motor cog worn ?? , or maybe there’s adjustment on the bracket themselves , can u find any writing on the motors plse

just ideas as would hate for u to buy a new bracket and that’s not the error

Done some more searching for u and think this is the bracket with the motor ur looking for, ouch , £650

https://www.lrparts.net/vplgp0249-r...d-range-rover-sport-l494-doesn-t-fit-svr.html

also found the wiring kit, personally would start here , remove the connectors one by one, ensuring all the pins are ok , then spraying with some electrical cleaner

https://www.lrparts.net/vplgp0290-d...ange-rover-sport-l494-genuine-land-rover.html

however before starting anything need to ensure ur battery is in tip top condition, do u have the following plse ,code reader , multimeter

if u haven’t got a code reader u can get a basic one for around £50.00 , plus are u handy doing work urself as can talk u through things to test , at the end of the day and think u would also feel happier if we ensure 100% that motor is at fault , need to rule everything out first and foremost

just hope this is useful to u

See there’s a label on the side of the motor , can u take some pictures of it please as it may also help is, another thought is if that motor was taken off could then ensure the bracket is moving freely

however if wiring etc is removed not sure if it would req recalibrating again

but if we can get some pictures etc first please , along with do u have a code reader , a multimeter we can then go from there,

Hope I’m not waffling too much, lol

PS, have u had a fault code sheet printed out and handed to u please, thks

Hi GStuart - the part number from Range Rover is LVPLGP0249. Did a quick Google search but couldn't find anything.

Looks like the right part. Thanks for your help mate. Price is similar to what main dealer was quoting if you include the VAT. Will do some further searching online to see what else is out there.

ur so welcome and more than happy to help mainly because you’ve been so polite , ur be surprised as sometimes people can’t even be bothered to say plse of thk u

just so nice to see with ur goodself being appreciative , sorry I’m waffling again, lol

indeed ref the cost, think u can get the motors on the own, just can’t find brackets without the motors yet

still keep thinking of it maybe a case of out of calibration

plse let us know how things go , oh and what year is ur RRS please, thks

But you waffle in a very polite way mate.;):D:D

It could be, or it could be more sinister than that.
It does surprise me that there's a surprise at a £600 repair. It's a £50,000 to £60,000 car when new, so comes with repair costs of a vehicle of that price.
It is what it is. When the crankshaft breaks, the repair costs will be over 10 X what the steps will be.

indeed ref the costs of repairs on an already expensive motor , would also be very interesting to see how they hold up after there covered in road salt etc , can just imagine the sound it it grinding, lol

At the end of the day prefer the functionality and looks of my rock sliders
