Hi all,
I have lost all faith in my RRS because twice now l have had to get it recovered back to my home in Cornwall. The last time was when I tried to go to Scotland for the New Year! I got half way and it came up with Serious Engine Fault and then it went into Limp Mode. Green flag found dozens of faults on his machine and said it was probably a voltage error but advised getting it back home on a truck.
Since getting it back to Cornwall it drives fine and it hasn't been near a garage.
My question is could a voltage error cause this and if so what could be causing this?
Any help would be really appreciated.

Lack of voltage can throw up allsorts of errors, and can be caused be a few faults, from week/failing battery, alternator not charging, bad earths ect
first rule on a range rover start with a good known battery the biggest highest capacity you can fit then check alternator out put, you want 14.5+ volts at 2000rpm under full load, light heater everything then go from there.

hi

personally i think the first thing u need will be to get it plugged into a diagnostic reader and get the codes printed out

low battery or alternator can indeed throw all sorts of issues up

two minds think alike , lol

ur not wrong there as i know when my battery was bad it lit up like a xmas tree and threw all sorts of errors around, was surprised at first as mines runs up to around 15.5 vdc but know different systems run at different voltages :D

Thank you BrianP38DSE and gstuart for your quick responses I will be checking the battery first.

I was guessing at the volts I could well be 115.5v as Gary mentioned.

it scared the life out of me at first , as i tested the vdc first to ensure the alternator was sound but battery wouldnt hold the charge , then through the D3 forum i established those higher reader were normal

PS , but 115.5 volts might be a tad high ;):D

will get my coat , lol

if i may also add, plse get ur codes read seeing the “ serious engine fault “ came up, better safe than sorry

plse us know how u get in

i had a mate with a engine fault coming up he never got to find it till his engine seized. he found that the egr vale let water into the intercooling pipes then slowly letting water into a cylinder. Then slowly getting worse letting so much water in. till the engine stopped. the only way to know this is happening is to draw i line on the expansion water bottle. if water is going down and theres no other sign of where the water is going IE, in the oil. or on the floor. then this could be where it was going and it was in his case. so check everything on the car just in case. this problem is suppost to be more common on the 2.7 i here.yours may not be this but have it checked.

indeed , when i read the op had got the “ serious engine error “ displayed i also thought the same of what if and getting it checked out asap

haven’t personally heard that on the 2.7 , oil pump cover failing seems a common one, another reason mine was fitted with the new upgraded one , along with all the front and rear belts
