Hi, I'm looking at buying a s/h RRS, 2016 model, 3.0L TDV6 - the advert says "Single Speed Transfer Box - High Range Only".

Is that correct, they only have a high-box? All help gratefully appreciated.

I heard only some models had a hi/low box. 🤔 Maybe a sport owner or two can help you better with that one👍
 
True. Although modern autos go pretty slow and you can drive 2 pedal style for more control.
Agreed though with the P38, I found reversing up a slope difficult with the tin tent, I had to wind the revs up to a ridiculous level before it would move, then it was off like a rocket unless I was very careful. Lots more control in Lo range with just a whisper of throttle needed.

I think that might be more a symptom of the diesel engine and gearbox of that era. The 4.6 p38 is no probs reversing a trailer, even on a slope. Not saying Low isn’t handy. But it is smooth and controllable. But I know what you mean and a Td5 Disco is very similar to what your describe.

I’d guess the older diesels might have a different stall speed on the converter to try and counter the lack of power and torque off boost. I’d expect an L494 RRS to be significantly better though. 8 gears and a much lower 1st plus the modern electronics.

Have a relative with a tight driveway up a steep incline and just reversing up in the td6 was like that, tiny bit of power and nothing then bit more and it was 100mph up the drive, fine forwards just reverse. Got used to it but low does give much more control.

Will also say my 4.2sc doesn’t seem to have that issue, different engine and box.

indeed the L494 from 2013 done away with the chassis and onto a monocoque design

as far as I’m aware the SDV6 & supercharged V8 had the 2 x speed transfer box , whereas the TDV6 and supercharged V6 petrol had a permanent all-wheel drive system with a single-speed transfer case

along with a Torsen-type differential providing a default 42/58 front rear torque split with the potential to deliver up to 62 percent to the front or 78 to the rear. This system saved about 18kg in weight on the two-speed transfer case setup.

alas the TDV6 and SDV6 still suffer with the broken crank issue

if i ever got a sport would be the NA 5.0 litre petrol V8 version
