I have a 2015 Range Rover Sport with 41k miles on the clock. Extended 5 year service plan so regularly serviced at dealership.
Catastrophic engine failure, metal filings in oil filter. New engine required.Quote £29,851
5 months out of 3 year warranty.

JLR, after 3 weeks, have offered to pay 50% (putting the price nearer what a non dealership garage have quoted without any JLR offers)

Advice please!

The engine of a Range Rover Sport three year old car that has only done 41k miles and has full dealership service history should not have catastrophic engine failure. There must be an inherent fault with this engine.

Did you not research before you purchased it, there is lots of info, you need to get you lr dealership to reduce there quote, and then have 50% paid for, new engine supplied and fitted circa 10-12 k

Hi

Sorry to hear about ur RRS , unfortunately it’s well documented of them snapping crankshafts

This will explain it better after someone had a written report done

Cut along story short the crank shells spin, cutting off the oil ways and leading to the crank snapping

I have a range Rover autobiography Sport SDV6 Diesel, 2013 registration. I bought it in November 2015 at 21K on the clock. Have driven it only 13000 miles since I bought and the current mileage is 34,810. Without any warning the engine stopped a couple of weeks before on A2 during the long weekend. It was towed to the nearest authorised service centre and now declared as needs a new engine. Since it's a young vehicle and quite low in mileage I didn't take an extended warranty. The reason for failure of the engine looks like the known issue - crankshaft failure! The garage guys found metallic debris in the oil filter indicating internal failure in the engine. Without any further investigation, Landrover jumped straight for a 60% cover. Iam not in a position to pay even the 40% as I believe this is a assembly fault and not the owner's mistake. In this issue, does it really matter if I had an extended warranty? If it is a design or assembly fault, then it needs to be fixed regardless. That's what I would expect from a leading profitable brand like LR, who rightly and proudly celebrates the fact that the majority of land rovers ever built!
My LR case manager is not helpful in any ways. She's not ready to escalate the matter to her higher authorities.
This is my first LR RR but have a jaguar already.
Please can someone guide me rightly to fight this!

Hi there,
The same thing has just happened to my range rover sport and the warranty ran out in December. How did you get on in the end, do you have any advice before I tackle land rover?

Unfortunately like many new members neither he or xena have logged onto their accounts for many months, if you click on their user name it'll tell you the last time they visited the forum. Good luck with yours though cos I think you'll need it....
