Hi there
i have go a 1998 p38 dse and got a little problem with it i have had it for over a year and had a cuple of problem like the air Suspension compresser and a alternater so not much.

now i got a problem with the fuel system after a day of driving the car it just did not want to start so cheack the fuel pipe and ther was not any fuel in there so i thought it could be the fule pump in the tank so spent the weekend getting the thing out and done a test on it and it was working so put it back in the tank and replace the relay so was not that.

bridge the relay and the fuel was there so it started after that and run fine.

had it put on the rover com and test book and it came up with a cuple of falt code he try to clear them and the it did not work.

have any one got any idear on what it could be

thanks

Leak off pipes letting air in/fuel out check around injectors to see if there is diesel in the recesses. Also worth checking the fuel filter is OK.

What test did you do on your fuel pump? They can still seem to work but sometimes not enough fuel pressure ( it gets tired/lazy). There is a proper way to test, someone will probably tell you how in a minute.

Fuse 39 via relay 12. 10 amp fuse on early models 20 amp on later models.

Replace both the fuse and the relay and the pump still will not work but if I bridge the relay it will run could it be the ecu??:(

The pump only runs for a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition on. It also runs whilst you are cranking the motor and of course whilst the engine is running. It does not run continuously with the ignition on if the engine is not running.

Is it only the engine ecu that contrl the lift pump because there no power going to the fuse or the relay on the switch side

After a long weekend looking at the range rover we fixed it it took a long time of one of my mate looking at the rave cd he found that the is a pipe going from the inlet manafold to a fuel filter had a hole in it So replace it an it's all up and working

That would be the pressure pipe to the MAP sensor then. Common enough problem for lack of power. But would not explain your first problem of no fuel in pipe from filter to FIP.
