please can anyone help, my Range Rover p38 2.5dse p reg, It will drive fine in 1st gear the turbo works fine, same in second, get it in 3rd gear at 2750 revs an the turbo stops an the car looses all power, I’ve just had a new turbo fitted. Could this possibly be the pump in the tank.? On its way out.! Coz it’s the same in 4th an 5..

@wammers is the best man on these. Brian has suggested checking the hoses to the turbo which sounds like a sensible starting point. Do you access to a Nanocom or other diagnostics?

I fill the tank every Friday. The turbo was changed coz it was screaming, an wen I took it off the whole thing was seized.! Ive changed hoses the top 1 coming out the egr valve goin to the intercooler when you reved the car the pipe would suck itself in. An I’ve done nearly everything.. I’m lost now.

Your year of car should not have an EGR valve.

No probs mate, I’ll have a good look at what you’ve told me to check an see how I get on..!!

Other problem you may have is that the ECU will be expecting a reading from the inlet air temp sensor fitted to the alloy manifold. There is no IAT sensor fitted to the later EGR engine it is a preset in the EGR version ECU. If you are using the pre EGR ECU that may give a problem. But i don't think it will give the problem you now have. It is used in conjunction with fuel temp sensor and engine temp sensor to fine adjust injected fuel quantity. You could i suppose tap the plastic manifold and fit the non EGR IAT sensor you should have the wiring for it.

Sucking of intercooler to manifold hose is a problem of turbo intake hose being sucked by turbo when floored. Pre 99 pipe is faulty and gets too soft with age and high temperature.

It's the engine that sucks, the turbo blows. Turbo can't suck on intercooler to manifold hose.

And now you know why , although given with good intentions, some advice may not be helpful and why some people get guru status ;) All hail the gurus :D

The turbo inlet hose from plastic crossover intake to turbo changed from ESR2522 to PHD103330 on the introduction of EGR at VIN number WA403804 for MY 1998. Also an internal PCV valve was added and a MAF sensor to enable the ECU to monitor exhaust gas flow. The inlet side before the turbo would have to be seriously restricted for the turbo to suck in the inlet hose. Air cleaner blocked Etc. But the hoses did internally delaminate at times causing restrictions.
