Hi All

I've got a problem with my Range Rover P38 (1995) RDS Radio Cassette Cd Player

I had to replace the battery and had forgotten about the Radio code, Main point being i don't know what it is :eek:

For the past 6 months i've not had any music in the car and the silence is driving me mad!! Does anyone know of a program on the net that can give me a code???

Failing that, should i just ripp the whole lot out, flog it with the multichanger and replace it with a newer one??? As the System is a Harmon Kardon (I think thats how its spelt) someone once told me that the speaker systems have their own amplifiers in the door???

Is this going to be a total nightmare for me or an easy fix??

ya local stealers can get it fur ya - if not most radio companies can - but they mite charge ya.

Dont bin it!! Its a good head unit...I had the same problem,when i changed batterys..
Go to your main Land Rover dealers with proof of id, and Log Book,,They keep them all on record,and didnt charge me...(Dont think they do anyone,Not suggesting im special! Well Mum says i am!!!)
The head unit i had ,had been changed so the code didnt work.Rang around a few Car hifi shops and most do decoding cheap...Take it along to them and the guy reprogrammed it to any code i wanted for £15..

Dont go buying programs off Ebay..They dont work, even if they advertise to!!
If i can find it..Theres 2 buttons you can press that overides the code for 10mins....Is a pain every 10mins pushing them,but least till you get around to sorting it? Will post later

Thanks Buddy, Thats a weight off my shoulder, As you said its a great head unit and the original that came with the car, So best bet would be a call to my local dealer i suspect.

Don't worry i wouldn't touch ebay with a barge pole, far too many scammers on there, if you get had, they look the other way :mad:

I went through about 5 programs all promising they could fix mine when i had trouble!
In the end one of the members on here suggested the Main Dealers!
As i say,you gotta go in there with id,they wont give it over the phone..While your in there,theres a 4 digit security code(cant remember the proper name) incase your immobilizer plays up,,Get that off them too(again its free) Always handy incase your batt goes flat and the keyfob de sinks itself to the alarm..
If not ,try local car hifi shops,dont search the net,because they qoute silly money and extorsionate postage,for a job that takes 10mins and costs around 10-20 quid!

What was an excellent stereo head unit 10 years ago, isn't as good as a £300 stereo head unit today.

My P38 cassette unit's LCD display went and couldn't get the damn code back in it to operate it.

What I did was take it to a car electrical installer and stuck a Pioneer DEH-P6800MP head unit in along with a Pioneer CD-BTB100 Bluetooth adapter for hands free mobile phone telephony and music streaming.

Then to cover the fixing screws, I bought 2 walnut radio blanks that fit either side of the unit finishing it off.

Job done......and if I wish, I could replace it with any standard car stereo from now on with no problems as the connections are now standard DIN.

On another side note, you could fit the Pioneer AVIC-X1BT Sat Nav DVD system in and completely revamp your old P38 and bring it up to date. This system is the same system James May used on BBC 2's TOP GEAR when he tried to race "Racing Pigeons" using a Ford Street KA.

If you realise that LR isnt going to be able to fix your original LR head unit, or even be able to BUY one from them, trying to keep your original going is futile as eventually it will be game over....
