Over inflated wear on centre of tread. Under inflated wear on outsides of tread. Depends where the wear is occuring. Setting can be changed you will need to get it on a four wheel alignment gauge to get the toe in, caster and camber set ups checked.

thanks for the reply

i dont think its tyre presures as the tyres have worn evenly they have just fethered really bad

If they feathered to the outside to much toe out if they feathered to the inside to much toe in. Can be caused by worn bushes in suspension arms.

You can adjust the camber angle and the toe-in on the rear suspension of the L322. The bolts through the upper hub ball joint (camber) and the toe-in control arm (where it is bushed to the subframe) both have built-in eccentric washers to allow for adjustment

The correct settings for the rear suspension are :

0.33 deg. +/- 0.2 deg. total toe-in

-1 deg. +/- 0.5 deg. camber angle (at normal suspension height)

However, as wammers says, your tyre wear problem is most likely to be caused by worn bushes.

I had a similar thing recently, turned out the suspension joints were worn so perhaps you should get an independent to have a look at the suspension bushes/rose joints. Also have the front checked, again wear in the suspension joints could cause misalignment front to back.

You will find if the tyres are feathering, its down to the rear lower suspension bush, mine were replaced for the MOT, but garage needed to reset the alignment after scrubbing out a set of barely legal rear tyres in 300 miles, cost for 4 wheel alignment set up £89.95+vat, way cheaper than wrecking good tyres, bushes cost £150+vat fitted to both osr & nsr.

Hi to you all, I am new to this and this is my first post, I am looking for more advice on this subject.

I own a 06 plate Range Rover L322 and have had it for 12 months, the first thing I did was fit 20 inch wheels from my last L322 (it started out with 19 inch wheels), the tyres had approx. 6mm of tread on them, after approx 6 months of use the outside of both the rear tyres had worn away, but the remainder of the tyres had approx. 4mm of tread on them. I had the rear tyres replaced with new and then booked it into my local Land Rover dealer to get all wheels aligned. After having the car all day the dealer concluded the wheels were aligned correctly and within tolerances.

The car has just gone though an MOT and I have been advised that the rear tyres are scrubbing again on the outer edge.

After reading the notes above it seems to me that the probable cause would be worn bushes, which makes me think I should get all the bushes replaced which would then incur another full wheel alignment.

Any advice before I spend a load more money would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Got the same issue where rear driver side tyre has worn quite badly on the outside very, very quickly.

Gonna get bushes checked first.

ATS tyre master are quoting £60 for wheel alignment.

Any experience with these guys anyone?

Don't use ATS !!!

Went there once with my 322....

Charged me £80 as suposably the front and rear alignment was out. I knew the rear was out for sure.

5 mins later I was told the alignment was completed

Off I go none the wiser.

A month later, with help from a land rover mechanic we changed the rear bushes as they were shot.
Only to find the alignment on the front and back had not been touched as they were seized up.

Basically charged even though they didn't do a thing.

I finally found a decent alignment specialist who showed me the whole process as they done it on my car.
It took at least 10 mins to get the car set up on the alignment lasers !!

It took about 25 mins all in to complete the process properly

So basically ATS done nothing and charged me for the privilege

Sadly this was before I was more clued up about motors and how they conduct the laser alignment process

Stupid I know!

:(
