hi could do with some advice replacing my knackered 4.6 engine with a mitsubishi 2.8 diesel .it has a gearbox conversion plate to fit my auto box but i think the electrics might be tricky . its the later thor type engine i am replacing any help much appreciated

Was that on te P38 or the Classic?
4.6 P38. They used to advertise them for sale in the southwest autotrader and sometime back one of the land rover magazines did an article on the conversion. Of course i have no idea how they got it to work but they did do a few.

Getting the engine to work is not the problem, it's what to do with all the systems that run through the BECM that will no longer be connected to anything.

Stanton 4x4, Diesel Range Rover Conversion Specialist to New Shape and Classic Range Rovers. We are recognised as the experts in this field especially in respect of Diesel Conversions to 4.6HSE Models. All conversions are main dealer tested ....................................................................................I just got that text off google. I dont think they are around anymore but someone on here must know someone that has got one of these .

If you going to that hassle there are far better units than the mitsi one, ie the bmw one thats already fitted to the p38- smoother and more fuel efficent.

Fair do's, when they say main dealer tested that maybe when they go in to have the BECM systems sorted.

Anyone out there got one ?

Try Simtec in Rochdale they do conversions with the TDV6 sport and D3 engines. Not cheap thuogh about 6k for all the bits and an engine.

the amount of money it will cost to do this conversion you would be better to spend your money on another rangie, use the other for spares (what parts are compatable) plenty of diesel rangies out there you should find a good one.

hi thanks for everyones advice i suppose in an ideal world i would prefer to put a top hat linered 4.6 engine which would be a lot easier but i havent got three grand plus to do that.

I know it's a lot of money, but having just had a new top hat linered 4.6 from Turners fitted I can recommend this route. By the time you've paid for the diesel lump and sorted all of the ancilliaries and electricals, you may well end up spending just as much!

I'd follow advice on here - either replace the 4.6 with a diret replacement or invest in a new P38 diesel and use yours for parts.

Whichever way you decide to go, good luck and keep us all up to date with the work.
