At the moment this is what i have.

dsc01631t.jpg

Its a complete mess. The 2 white connector blocks join up but when they are together the wires just come in from the left and go straight out the right with nothing for me to connect a headunit too. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or am i just going to have to rip everything out and start again?

think you may have to start from scratch the 2 white block connectors and the blue one i think are for the cd changer and the 2 white 2red look like wires for an amp

Yea im going to start from scratch. I heard there may be amps already installed which may be a pain as im going to have to bypass them. I dont need the cd changer either. Im just need to find the

Constant 12v - Appears to be the green wire but im not getting any power
Earth - Black
Ignition On - No idea
Front Right + and - = Black/white and black brown
Front Left + and - Black/blue and black/green

Im going to be running my own conventional amps (which will probably run the front speakers too at some point.

Im not getting any power through the 12v and i cant find a fuse in the fusebox for the radio? Is there a fuse elsewhere?

Somebody has had a right party in there! What else has been butchered under the dash I wonder??

I think you might be better off taking off the lower dash and trim panels and tracing as much of the wiring as you can. Get a manual so you have a wiring diagram to follow. At least if you cut out all the rubbish you will know what's what, where it goes and what it does, the other bonus being that you might be able to correct potentially dodgey bodgery that could cause a fire.

botom of page 14.2 is wire colour code's hope the diagram is helpfull

Just pay a sparkey to do it, if you start messing with a 20 year old RRC you will be in a world of hurt!

Apart from the cd player all the other wiring seems to be in order. I will take apart as much as i can and re wire everything properly with decent wire.

Thanks for that. Confirms the colours which i thought were correct before.

Done plenty of car radios/ice installs before and i dont see the point in paying for something i can do myself once i know which wire is which.

Now i know which wire is the power wire what can i do about there being no power to it? There is no fuse for the headunit that i can tell of.

You're lucky if that's all that's wrong with your wiring. I've had some muppet set about mine with scotch locks everywhere and at one point there's even been an electrical fire in behind the radio!

Cut out miles of cable so far, some of it with at minimum 4 scotch locks on each 6 inch piece.

Hi check in the boot behind the rh cover is the a bass box if there is all your speaker wires terminate there
post if they do and ill get the wiring colours for you

i am having trouble with the wiring on a p38 range rover. i have a loose purple wire and i dont know where it goes. i think it is something to do with either the hands free on the radio or the mute when the phone rings. the reason i say this is that the radio used to mute when the phone rings but doesn't anymore. can anyone help?

From the wiring diagram provided by treeman, it looks like there is only a +12v feed from the ignition switch (123), so no permanent +12v to maintain the head unit memory. There is also an in-line fuse (119) and a choke (120), which might be somewhere inside the dash. If you're doing the job properly, you will also want to pick up a feed from the instrument lighting circuit, so you can see the buttons at night. Doesn't look like amplifiers were standard issue, so the phono plugs have been retro-fitted.

Good luck!!!
