Evening all,
I've got a 1989 RRC which I'm trying to get a few things sorted on. Ive been given a front lower spoiler to house the fog lights but am not sure what size the captive bolts are on the bumper. Does anybody know? My suspicion is they are not metric so possibly 3/8 or 7/16 UNF?

I replaced mine a few years ago but can't remember the thread details, sorry.
What amused me is that the makers handbook states that the spoiler can be removed to protect it from possible damage when driving off-road .. that may be the case when the car is brand new but LR marketing are having a laugh once the bolts start to go rusty o_O

One detail of note is that the lamps are not fog lights, they are driving lights & if switched will illuminate only when the headlights are on full beam.
 
Is this any help 🤔 numbers may have been superseded by now.

SE108201L - the ones at the corners marked 5 in the pic & the others in the pic also marked 5 - are 8mm x 20mm set screws. Usually rust into the inserts in the bumper & just spin round in the plastic when you try to undo them.
For the rest if you Google the part number it will usually come up with thread & length.

As norseman says, they aren't fog lights they're driving lights & work how he says.

You may also find that the rear fog light goes out when you put headlight main beam on.
This isn't a fault.
When I bought my 1986 RRC I thought it was odd & was chatting about it with my crewmate who laughed & said that they thought the same & it wasn't until the Transport Unit manager contacted LR that they were told it was supposed to be like that.
Something on the lines that if visibility was good enough to be on full beams it was good enough that you didn't need the rear fog to be on - it didn't shut it off altogether so if you went back onto dipped it would come back on.

There are still a few cars like that from the modern era as well. 🤔

You are of course correct, my error calling them fog lights! I have just spent a while understanding that they only come on with the main beam.:rolleyes:

Interesting ly the part number does come up with a metric size M8. Maybe I didn't wire brush them clean enough. Difn't want to force it and discover I wrecked the threads.

Depending on how you rate originality the 6 vent slot spoiler was introduced in Oct. '89 & this is the only version that I assume is still available new. An '89 prior to that month should have the earlier 4 slot version, which in turn superseded the original plain lower edge.

That's not boring at all, if you want to keep your vehicle original as it came out the factory, that's useful info.

Around the time the 3.9 was in the showrooms then, also the exposed front door hinges disappeared at the same time, plus a new dash, just some of the things I saw when having a ‘nosey’ when my RR fitted with a smooth spoiler was in for its service.

Not boring Norseman and as aj1954 said, important info if originality is a concern.
My 1989 2 door is not very original. It was LHD now RHD with a VM replaced by a 300Tdi. TBH I was given the spolier and think the vehicle is missing something without one, plus I can have additional driving lights as a bonus. Cheers
