Found this while rummaging behind an oil soaked 300tdi lump.

Tee’d off the Master Cylinder Brake Vacuum Hose and ends with a screw stuck, in the end - but where would it have gone to?

Thoughts on the usual postcard….

On the TD5 the vacuum line powers the EGR valve.
But does the 300tdi have an EGR system? Thereis no ecu to control it.

I think the late ones did, if I recall there was a EGR controller box screwed under the seat

The air recirculate valve on the early discovery on the heater used vacuum source to operate it,
This came from the T piece you showed, it probably had a blanking plug over the end from the factory that has been lost so substituted with a screw, ( probably Land Rover being cheap and using parts for two vehicle types)
It won’t be for a vacuum gauge as it won’t tell you anything about the engine only the amount of vacuum for the brakes, ( useless info)

Sussed it, thanks @JimS. My late 300tdi has a crudely disabled EGR system - this small pipe ran to the modulator valve on the bulkhead, the ECU is still intact but the EGR valve is gone. New top intercooler hose going on later!
