Got a Mantec snorkle for Christmas for my TD5 110. I didn't like the look of the standard
ducting in the engine bay so I have replaced it with a single length of 80mm id heavy plastic flexi.
Should I be thinking out refitting the restrictive leaky dump valve?
What have the snorkle owning types done for their install?

ps. Still got the gearbox/axle breathers to do. Is there a good reason why I shouldn't
put them into the airbox via a bulkhead fitting? pic of dump valve and other leaky crap attached.

I think most people seal up the drains on the air box and piping

I ran the tubing from the axle breathers and gearbox up along side the snorkel to the top.

I was thinking about this as well, i hate the idea of many parts being sealed and potentially splitting and leaking water into the air box.

Have you got a link to the flexi pipe you bought so i can compare it to the pipe i was looking at please.

Hi Chris,
I think I have a bit of this,
Buy Flexible Ducting RS PVC 10m Long Grey Flexible Ducting Reinforced, 75mm Bend Radius , Applications Various RS 9110020750000 online from RS for next day delivery.
It was an off-cut from work... (my less informed colleagues suggest that my off-cuts are bigger than the bits left over )

Thanks for that mate, haha its an unwritten law that off cuts are always 10-20% bigger then whats left .

Just noticed your not a million miles away, ill keep an eye out for you when i am over that way.

+1. Either bend them over at the end or out them inside the mushroom top or whatever type you have. Don't try and out them into the airbox, that's more hassle than its worth.

i think the worry with having them in the airbox is due to the air being sucked into the engine, creating low pressure above the tube openings and sucking up oil.

imo your best off running them all to a junction box and running a larger single pipe up to whatever height you want, with a bend in it to stop water.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Still not sure which way to go on the breathers, my Nanocom tells me that I get a small drop in pressure (30mB) in the air box when at full chat now that the snorkel is fitted and I'm wondering if this will result in an oily mess in the air box. Was also considering fitting a breather tube into the clutch bellhousing instead if the normal plug. Anyone tried this?
Think I'm gonna have to test it and report back in a few weeks.

I don't think fitting a breather to the bell housing will work as the drain hole is there to allow clutch dust and any oil leaking from engine and gearbox to escape without contaminating the clutch friction disc.

Nanocom? What is this wizardry for a Defender? And yes you will notice that a snorkel restricts air intake a little. A breather plug has been done before and it is a good idea to a certain extent but the hole in the bellhousing is predominantly there to prevent build up of oil and crap. You'll find that if you put a plug in you'll need to take it out on a periodic basis to make sure there's nothing building the up in there.

That is a good point on the bellhousing breather that I had not considered. I'll look at getting the axles and gearbox breathers sorted and report back.
