I've just got myself a 3 door Freelander and would like the basic rain cover for stowing in the car for when I'm using it with the hard top off. I've spent considerable time searching on line for one but it seems there are non to be had. Does anyone know if you can still get them or of any alternative options? Or perhaps someone here has one for sale?

Thanks for that. I wasn't expecting a piece of tent material and some assorted fittings to be quite so pricey. I think I'll keep an eye out for a used one.

They do turn up on fleabay occasionally, but often end up selling for over £100.

The proper softtops do also appear occasionally, but it's one hat has not got mould, ripped, or bits missing, they too go for even sillier money.

They belong to a group of Freelander 1 rarities like the 3-door rear parcel shelf, (and mounts), and the legendary dash mounted cup-holders!

Can you make one?
I wondered that - maybe out of an old tent and some knicker elastic :)

I just had a look at it in the Accessories section of Rave though and its quite a complex thing. There are bits that slide into a grove around the hard top mount and the main cover zips to and frame bits lifting the cover over the back seat headrests etc. TBH as a LR 'lifestyle' type accessory, I think they're a reasonable price new - if you can still find 1.

Because of the fiddly bits that go with them - I'd be very careful buying 2nd hand. Rave shows all the separate bits that it should be supplied with - make sure they are all there and in servicable condition. There are parts that are permanently fitted to the car that people selling the cover might not know come with the cover rather than being on the car in the first place.

I'd love to get one of these for sensible money - but I can see that I'd not be the only one and hence the stiff prices!

I'd rather spend the £170 odd that LR charge for it new, than over £100 on an EBay, hope it's all there, special!

I'd happily spend the money if I lived in a sunnier climate and knew I was going to get a lot of use out of it. Also, I'm a tightwad.

And speaking of complexity, how quickly does it go into place if you need to use it? And is it more difficult if it's quite windy? The climate up here is quite challenging at times.

Good question: if the thing is a nightmare to fit, is flimsy and doesn't keep the water out, it would be pointless: anyone got any experiences with this kit?

It looks more than substantial enough as a cover if you are caught out by rain. It looks like there are 4 pieces that fix to the car - 2 being zips the other 2 being velcro. So to fit it, you slot the 3 frame pieces together and do up 2 zips. It doesn't look to fussy. Probably a lot quicker to fit than the old tonneau cover I had on my Triumph Vitesse - with all its poppers that wouldn't click in.

A soft top/rain cover like this?

I've got a brand new one like this-still in the unopened packaging. What's it worth?

Whatever someone wants to pay for it at the time... I've seen some go for not much more than £20, while at other times fetch £50.

Put it on eBay, or in the for sale section to find out what it will sell for.
