Hi all
Here's a strange one - went out to drop my wife off earlier using the other car and we noticed the radio was cheerfully playing Radio 2 - whilst locked and alarmed!!! I opened the car and attempted to switch the radio off but no controls worked (not even the steering wheel controls) When I put the key in and switched it on and then off, it cancelled and fell silent.
Any ideas or so I just accept the fact my car is haunted :alien:

Shouldn't be possible, would normally default to classic FM:cool:

The radio should come on with ign live and the fact its on without it would suggest the radio itself is faulty

Yes but you have to press the button to turn it on! the fact its coming on by its self without the ign to tell it to,then not responding to the off button! would suggest the radio is faulty with possably a short cuicuit and should be removed before it kills your battery or even worst case starts a fire

The ignition does not tell it to come on the button on the front does, but you are right it's a problem with the radio and as has been said it's quite likely to be condensation.

Other than permanent live for code retention, there should be no power to the radio unless the key is at position 1. I agree with the condensation but that is only if the radio switched live has been substituted for a permanent feed.

Mines original and works with the key in position one.

Mine's original, switches off with ignition but can be switched on again for then to work about 1/2 hour without key then switches off

Thanks for all the help guys - Guess I need to replace the head unit then. If anyone has one, let me know ???????????????????

If you've got condensation to that extent you might be better spending your money on a dehumidifier before it causes problems with other electronics.
That's after you've checked for any leaks; O rings, pollen filters etc.

+1, and if you dry it all out quite likely the head unit will work correctly again.
