has anyone done this repair?
radiolcd
yes?
where in gods name you get the bulbs from?

and there not LED, there LCD!, i didnt read it properly either!!

Wouldn't want to muck around with that myself!! But if you look further down that page their is a link http://www.roverville.us if you click on that they have a UK branch it seems (based in sheffield)....they might sell the bulbs as well possibly????

I considered doing this repair myself as Im used to working with small electronic circuits etc but my screen was also on its way out as well so I packaged my radio up last Monday, sent it off to Roverville in Sheffield and got it back on Thursday morning. Its like having a new radio, all lights work perfectly on the front, I can now actually read the screen and I think the sound quality has increased a bit, the bass notes sound better in my opinion. Either way, I paid £98 for a full service, this included return shipping and I couldn't be happier.

The only one tiny tiny thing that slightly bugs me is they cant get the screens for the UK versions of the Clarion radios so they replace it with the screen for the Japanese radios. Everything still works just the same and all the radio station/tape/cd text appears on the screen ok BUT the little icons above the text, i.e. the RDS icon and the EON icon have changed to something like MAN and DX. I assume this is because they dont have the RDS or EON service thing over in Japan. Either way you hardly notice the different icons and the radio works just the same.

Im really happy with mine.

done that been there, got the T shirt! was in touch with them a while back and although they have the bulbs they dont supply them.
it was the first place i tried!!

come to the conclusion that there just ordinary bulbs that illuminate the lcd, hence they call them lcd bulbs, but i have no idea of the voltage! so thats all i really need to know!

Put your AVO across the failed bulb when you have the radio out.

Are there two bulbs in these things? The left half of my display seems dim. Another job to add to my arm length list of things to put off.

yeah - i know its hard to believe - but i did - i chucked - no swap - no sale - just dustbin job.

cheeky bastid!

Whats an AVO....is it somefin they had before the war as you two know what they am

AVO DVM all the same in my book. Analogue meters still have a use. My AVO Model 8 is still going strong.

Got my radio out at the moment and am trying to find the pinouts for the back so i can power it up on my bench while I work on it. It doesn't seem to follow ISO 10487 standards.

I am gettimg tempted to bin it and get a nice MP3 head unit instead :)

theres about 7 bulbs i think, 2 for the lcd display, the part thats dark on mine is the right hand side, channel search/cd change button.
trouble with checking each bulb is there all connected to the same tracks on the pcb so if one's ok they will all seem ok with a multi meter.
the bulb's in question are "grain of wheat" bulbs, 12 volt!

Maplin > Wire-Ended Filament Type

I know but I meant just to check that they were in fact 12v. But if you know already then that's better :) I took out my good one lst night and put it on my variable voltage source and it seemed fully bright at 6v

I am contemplating replacing mine with a couple of hyper-bright LEDs. It's worth a shot. I know they are not omnidirectional like the original filament bulbs but it has to be better than no bulb at all.

right! the bulbs i picked up where massively too big!!

had an idea, the little green bulbs thst go into the dashboard switches! i had one spare, took the bulb from the holder, removed the green rubber hood and it was a perfect fit, and it works. so if anyone needs to do it it takes 5 mins from radio out to back in and the parts are available from main dealer, the bulb i used was for fog lamp switch night time illumination.

jobs a goodun......................................
