Ello all. just baught a new 1993 200tdi 90. I'm trying to fit my sony car radio headunit and need some help. There was an old cassette player in it before witch just plugged into the loom via a 6 pin plug. The Sony has a much more modern plug set up going on. Does anyone know the name of an adapter plug for sale on interweb or is it a trip to halfrawds tomorrow...

New plug..

I would have thought that you should be able to get an adaptor, I got one to suit my 200 from halfrauds, although the old plug was different to the one you have there

The universal plug is an ISO connector, of which neither of those are one.

I'm not really too sure on defender radio connectors, given mine didn't have one fitted as standard. You may need two adapters

Defender > iso Iso>Sony.
I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows more...

My 1994 defender had an iso connector as standard. I'd be surprised if yours didn't. It looks like yours has been changed at some point. A 6 pin connector, that can only be live, earth and two pair of speaker wires. I doubt you'd get any adapter from halfords that will help you. Just use the wiring diagram of the new radio and rewire it yourself.

Apart from the destructions for the radio do not have a wiring diagram for the main plug so might struggle joining the 14wires into 6. I know the red nd black will be +/- but Havnt the foggiest about the rest! Ahh well not to worry guys haha..

Red switched live
yellow permanent live (memory)
Blue electric aerial
Orange DON't know but it int needed on a fender (Maybe Mute for an handsfree kit)
Black Earth.

Grey/grey black, Green/green Black, Purple/purple black, white/white black are the speaker wires.

you can get em on fleabay for about £4 for bare ends, I soldered the ISO onto mine with some heatshrink, I've got a spare ISO you can have if yer not in a rush can post it to you next week.

Halfords do a Sony plug to ISO adaptor which would still need you to attach an ISO to the defenders wiring but save you having to butcher the new radio.

Don't forget you may need an aerial adaptor aswell, worth checking before you go shopping.
