The previous owner was probably a Dr, I know the code is 4 digit has a couple of 2,'s first or last an 8 first or last and a wiggle in the middle. I can't even tell which way up it was written. Can anybody help?

No ideas from just the serial number plate.
Is the head unit the original one fitted in the vehicle? If so, have a word with your local Land Rover main dealer, they might have the security details on a database somewhere.

Well the numbers hand written on the back of the stereo are nothing like the actual code. Paid the above link and all sorted

And if you don't keep the code written down and stored safely, ready for next time you need it, you can expect to have the p*ss ripped out of you something rotten! :D

Write it on a bit of card and store it somewhere safe. It'll save you from ripping your stereo out every time you disconnect the battery, lol

What a good idea! So, when the next little scrote nicks the radio, he can nick the mats as well.
What you really need is the little "security information" card, as supplied by LR.
Or, in the absence of such a card, in the finest of Blue Peter traditions, here's one I made earlier:-

Print it out on a piece of card, arranging for it to be about the size of a credit card, fill in the gaps and if you have the facilities, laminate it. Then you can keep it in you wallet with your AA membership card.
All of that information you should be able to get from your local LR main dealer.
