Evening all. I’ve introduced myself in the newby forum.

My original radiator is looking the worse for wear. So the question is, recore or replace? I’ve had the 95 Disco for fifteen years and expect to keep it at least the same again. Reliability and longevity are my priorities, not cost.

Prices seem to be £200ish for a recore or £100 for a new one. How good are the new ones? I’m guessing the vast majority of the new ones are Britpart.

Any experiences gratefully received.

Presuming is a 300tdi you can get a Nissens radiator for not much more than a britpart one, but I've no experience of either

I have the xl allysport rad & oil cooler & intercooler, I doubt youd want to pay the price for any of them.

Nice to see another D1 member ;)

Cheers Kev

My experience with BP radiators is a hit and miss affair. Original changed at 200K with a BP item. It leaked 5K later so replaced with another BP. Fast forward another 100K and we're still OK (fingers crossed)

You just had to go and jinx yourself - you know it will probably start leaking again now :D

Don't know if you have been suffering with overheating or anything, but if you get it recored you could get it uprated at the same time, also a recore should come with a guarantee at least as good as a new one, and, as others have said, you will know that it will fit.

I’m not averse to spending money but the Allisport website says their kit is built for better cooling and not longevity.

This is my worry.

Recore at least you know it'll fit....
Good thinking.

No overheating, just starting to lose fins.

Thanks for the replies all.

Cheers. I’ll look into Nissens. Happy to pay for quality.

My local radiator place recores industrial plant and machinery and can get what ever core sizes he wan't ordered in, I want an uprated CAT core in mine when I get it done as the fins are becoming brittle.

Never has a faulty rad, but I saw a demo once by a radiator supplier that had an alloy core fitted to a standard rad, it was suggested at the time that the way to go, but then I think I’d take the simple option, and that’s get a like for like rad replacement.
