Quick one....

I might be needing a new rad in the near future as I've noticed some fins are missing and its curved horizontaly...

anyway,

My 90 is a 1994 and has a disco 200 engine in it....the rad and IC, dont have a clue!

Are they all the same?
I mean...does the rad and IC off a disco 1 also fit the defender? is it all the same size and connections in same place?

The IC looks very similar to the one I had in my disco, but cant remember about the rad...

I've got a disco rad in my defender, half the price of a proper 200tdi one and fitted straight in, pipes are all the same. I think IC are the same anorl.

When you fit a Disco rad/IC assembly to a Defender, you've got to lower the mounting brackets by approx 3 cm. Looking at your picture, it doesn't look as though the brackets have been cut down at all - so I would assume it has a Defender rad assembly.

As above - looks like the mounting points are still "standard". But it's a trivial job to lower them if a Disco radiator and intercooler were to be fitted.

So the difference from a Disco to a defender radiator, is the height?correct?

so, lenght wise, if I get a disco rad and ic, it will fit in there, just need to cut down the brackets to allow it to sit at same height, flush with the bonnet catch....

does anyone has a pic of a defender with a disco rad in? to see the cut on the brackets?

im gonna look for a defender rad then as I cant be arsed to fok around with it anymore, just want to take that one out and put one in...simple job.. :D
however, if i cant find a cheap one....the plan changes!

It's pretty easy to lower the brackets if you have to - 5 minutes with a grinder and 5 minutes with a welder will see you sorted.

I know..I know...
but I spent 3 months welding my disco and recently welded a hole on the defender, plus the whole end of the exhaust to make it straight through...

if I can avoid using a mig welder, I will! lol

Something like that....sounded like a demented sewing machine for a day or so...then stopped with a very loud bang! End of 19j - now replaced with disco 200tdi - hence the cut-down brackets. :D

Sounds similar to mine :D During my engine's last week of life, the sump had so much water in it (due to a cracked block and head) that it was overspewing out of the dipstick and the breather pipe. I ran it for a week like that, did about 100 miles with 90% water emulsified oil in it. Amazing what they can really put up with those engines, I was expecting it to seize at any moment but it kept going until it finally blew up. 200 TDI ftw ;):D

Ok... looking through ebay, some sellers say

"this is a rad for a defender TD, not for TDi engines"

Like this one.. 2.5TD Defender Radiator NEARLY NEW on eBay (end time 01-Oct-10 19:12:29 BST)

but looking at the pics, they look exactly the same, when comparing with 200tdi rads?

this is a pic of what's fitted on mine, the connection on the back, look the same though

just trying to figure out exactly which one I can buy, as I'll be going to the Newbury 4x4 show next weekend and hope to get one from there..
