They do like nice though. I expect a rad muff really helps in winter with the Fender's heater!!

instead of my right foot getting mildly tepid it now gets decidedly hot:eek:

this is,of course, outwayed by the draughty interior though :(

That's why yer have a Hippo and a Fender :D!! What I'm hoping is that we can one day add a fender to our current Hippo and 1.2 Ibiza and we can use the Ibiza for long boring journeys that need to be cheap and use the Landy's for ah'else.

My missus passed her driving test today :), I'm hoping that we can get her insured on the Hippo soon so she can begin indoctrination muhahahaha!!!

Seriously though she's actually keen on getting a Fender and even wants to work on it :eek:!!!

You got that right! Don't think it'll be a hobby for her but I think she'd like to join in a bit. More than happy to do that, it'd be a nice thing to work for.

I know this is off on a tangent but is it just me or are Fender parts dirt cheap and far more plentiful compared to Hippo bits? The most expensive thing I've seen is a galvanised chassis and even that is less than the cost of a brand new IRD.

Jaysis. It'd criminal NOT to buy one :eek:. But now that the Hippo is nearing a regular maintainance stage - only the VCU to go now and my old old one is still ok -I'm on the lookout for another project. Might as well be a tratter :). Not that this in any way diminishes my love for the Freelander (air con and no drafts, mmmm.)

They are lovely and simple. That's a big part of the appeal me thinks - just a big mechano kit really. Welding and riveting skills needed. Sat in a few during recent wobble when lookin at D's. Steering wheel position might take a bit of grtting used to. Tbh, I loves em but as I need to get around the motorway to mum's and she needs to be able to clamber in, cant see it happening. Ho hum. Want one tho before the Euro loonies ban them:)

Yeh it souds like they are easier to work on than a Freebie. Not that mine is much good ona motoreay anyway it gets so bleddy LOUD at 70.

Well maybe if I'm a good boy and do lots of work on the side we'll see in a few months :).

Nah it's definitely the engine, it was like that before I got the new tyres. There's an aftermarket manifold on there and then a cheaptastic back box. I'll address that down the line.
 
Got me thinking - 2 and a 1/4 petrol engine with a distributor and points and no gismos!!!

Well looking at the price for a complete Fender, it's probably MUCH cheaper to build it from all the parts available ;)

BTW isn't the bottom vent for the Intercooler???

The general concensus in the Frender section is to get one with an ok engine and transmission and a totally fooked chassis. This is a good plan for long term ownership as you may as well get one with as **** a chassis as possible if you're going to replace it anyway. So I'm going to start saving but I think I could get one for around the £2500 mark - mostly I'd be paying for the fixings, engine and body panels - all else would probably go!!!

Sounds like a plan to me! My thoughts now are to stick with petrol going forward. Looking at Disco forum and this one, the Td4 and 5 engines are too complicated for me. Mind you 200 and 300 Tdi is a more straightforward option in a Def or Disco but the 2.25 petrol, now that's simple!. Anyhow, sticking with Fleaby for now bla bla bla. Check out Turner Engineering!!
