Hello everyone back again another topic, basically I’m getting my radiator changed on my landy 2005 defender 105k at the end of March because some fin’s are missing and it’s looking worse for wear now, I use this landy for work everyday so want it to be top notch, when I first got it in 2016 my mechanic changed the thermostat and water pump, will that need doing again? Also my dad has got me a new genuine top hose for my bday ( a very generous gift ) what other hoses should I change or is that it? There looks to be a fair few hoses other than the top one and tbh they look alright? Your input would be welcomed thank you

I’m changing mine as it is probably the original (1995) and will be adding an Allisport version. Andrew there has been excellent with his assistance as my rad is a TDi still even though a v8 3.9 EFi has been dropped in.

Thermosats are cheap and easy to fit if the rad is out, as is the water pump. I’d personally change both just for that reason. Some nice, new hosing can’t hurt either, on the ‘rad inlet side’ just watch the budget!!! Check the coolant topup tank for cracks perhaps?

I wouldn't change anything just for the sake of it. A 20 year old Genuine hose is probably better than a new Britpart one, same with the water pump.
Mind you water pump isn't original, what make did they fit last time?

Thank you both, I have got a new genuine LR top hose and the little heater to water pump hose as well not sure what make water pump was put on but it definitely wouldn’t have been britpart cost isn’t the biggest issue with this because I use the Land Rover 5 days a week for my landscaping business so i need to try and solve as many issues before they become an issue

Really Anaconda? A 20 year old original hose with 20 years wear / tear and temp cycling, will still be better than a new Britpart one? Are Britpart that bad?

I've had cheap/britpart hoses/belts go after a year or 2. It's false economy. Not only do you have to spend the time/money replacing, you're always wondering if it will get you home today. genuine doesn't last forever, but britpart is a stop gap

Yes, I bought a Britpart top hose to replace the original one on the 200tdi, I put the original back on.
Bypass hose on the 200tdi I had no choice to replace with Britpart, I throw it away every time I have to take it off, which is a regular basis recently. Ok, it's less than a £1 so doesn't really mater.

Typically (mostly but not always) rubber things from Britpart are not as robust as OEM parts. Hoses and seals spring to mind. Some metal parts are OK (nuts and bolts for example) with the exception of bearings which in the main are nowhere near as good as (for example) Timken.
Some switches are good, lightbulbs and fittings are generally OK.
Brake discs and calipers are affordable (I haven't had any issues with the ones on my D90) and their 'orange' shocks seem good too - better than Terrafirma IMO.

So in summary:
Occasionaly Good, sometimes Fair to Middling with outbursts of Complete Crap.

I’ve sent a few britpart items back because of the poor quality, not important items like hoses though the quality of Land Rover parts is really bad at the moment, i even fitted a genuine auxiliary belt last year only to find out it was actually too long and the wrong sizing, fitted s gates belt now all is well

YES THAT BAD, however not as bad as Terrafirma / Allmakes (same company) / Bearmach cheap tat repackaged total garbage

A few makes that in my opinion are the best quality you can get:

DAYCO or GATES for belts, tensioners, pulleys
LEMFORDER for balljoints A Frame and other suspension parts
TIMKEN bearings and races
SUPAPRO Bushes
OLD MAN EMU Shocks and Springs
PIONEER Brake Hoses
LOF Clutchs SMF Flywheels, Clutch master and slave cylinders
GKN Universal Joints
