Hi folks - Possibly a silly question but can the rad on a 3.5efi be raised slightly on it's mountings? I've never changed one but I understand that it slots into fittings at the bottom & there's just two mounting bolts at the top. The reason for this strange info. request (without boring you all with the full story:bored:) is that the fan tips just touch the very top of the cowl whereas there's plenty of clearance elsewhere. The rad only needs to be lifted a couple of mm's to achieve results & thin spacers under the top mounts would do(?) but I'm unsure as to how much tolerance there would be to any lift before the bottom fittings no longer engaged.

If you only need a smidge of upward movement, I think you could pull it off. From memory, the bottom pins are about 1/2 to 3/4 in. long, so a washer or two could be used to raise it. Google Ranger Rover Classic radiator images and you can look at the size of the bottom pins.

Cannot remember the set-up, it's been many years since I owned a Classic, but is there no adjustment on the cowl?

No, the fan & cowl are original but a replacement rad was needed & unable to obtain the (long obsolete) exact spec. a generic V8 item was obtained. My indie fitted it without any problems but I suspect that the overall height was slightly less that the original & I wish now that I'd had the old one re-cored, but of course hindsight is such a wonderful thing

Looks like this. should have a couple of rubber pads between rad and chassis.
I've used a coolant hose to chop a couple of pads out of before now. might have to double up with it.

Thanks for the clear illustration - gives me an idea of the adjustment that may be available. I've taken the existing damaged cowl out for the time being, one cut top & bottom & it came out without the need to remove the fan - gives me the chance to waxoyl the top of the front cross-member too.
