right i'vec picked up an ex disco 300tdi and r380 to drop in the station wagon, in order to get in the right spot i want to mount the gearbox first then weld on engine mounts to suit....

however the r380 has disco mounts which i assume fit the disco gearbox x-member? how does an r380 fit in a fender?? does it utilise the same x-member or do i need different gearbox brackets and chassis brackets?

ive looked through the workshop manual but all the gearbox supplement shows is the gearbox (odd that lol) and no sign of any bracketry...

any 300 tdi fender owners give me a clue?

cheers steve

disco crossmember and mouts will fit in a defender ,but 2 of the front holes dont line up and you need to grind a bit out for seat box support

james many thanks i was hoping that was the case but without a crossmember its guesswork

you do know the boxes are very different from a disco to fender?

yep :) however i will be building a custom tunnel and seat box arrangement to take into account the 3" body lift so the gearstick issue may actually put the stick in a more ergonomic position....

all a bit trial nerror at the moment but thanks for replying

it will be difficult as your going to need one def lt77 mounts can be used but arent as good ,r380 and t/box sit slightly forward compared to lt77

I did this conversion on mine mate. Gearbox bolts straight to the standard chassis mounts. No problem. I trimmed my seat box to get better clearance but alot of strength is lost by doing it. To get around that, I moved the seat box forward an inch and fed the gearstick thru the centre seat opening. Requires alot less trimming and works great
