yes drain clean oil out and fresh in equals long life ,dirty oil out and lifes all ready reduced, which i see all to often

Absolutely! Good clean oil is the cheapest maintenance it is possible to do. And anyone who tells you otherwise has a big repair bill lurking round the corner.....
 
Difflock's oil is just a bog standard fully synthetic gear oil from Amsoil with their 'high' markup, all the major oil companies now do it, MTF94 gearbox oil is from Texaco. Take your pick.

The closest R380 oil I could find here was the MTF-2 by Pentosin (German)

I used to put this in my last BMW off opieoils as it was half the price of redline MTL with performance no worse, going on having filled other / prior bimmers with redline exclusively.

Landy-wise I bought Comma MVMTF plus for my last gearbox oil change on the disco, specifically meets MTF94 spec and is fully synthetic, cheap in the UK, Barbados is another question. Can't comment on specific performance as I've no comparisons (box is crunchy regardless :oops:)
 
Goc3k, I used to use Redline MTL on all of my BMWs and most customers BMWs unless they had a specific request, never had any issues with full race, street performance or grocery getter gearboxes. If I could get the best oil for the Landy here regardless of cost, I would.
I looked at the various oil types and manufacturers recommended on LZ, including additives, heat and viscosity coefficients and claims, they all seem close to and some the same as the MTF-2 from Pentosin. I am getting it at the same price here compared to MTF-94 in the US, so not a bad deal at all.

As JamesMartin and I concur, the best oil is oil regularly changed. :)

Aye most modern synthetic box oils have EP additives as standard now so are fine in the old landy slushboxes - data sheets are easy to find on the net if ever unsure, changing it really is the key part as said.

Redlines standard 75w-80 can go in an r380 no bother, is it simply too expensive to import?

Yes Redline is almost triple the cost here compared to what I used to pay in North America. I will use Pentosin MTL-2 for now and see how it feels. The climate here is humid and tropical as you know, so I might not have the same notchy or crunchy feel as you guys might experience.
