Will try WD progress to shock spray if that don't work and will try to get a 6 sided socket today, see if machine mart sell em as don't think halfords do
Try looking at Impact sockets, they are single hex and very robust, I think Halfords do them.
 
Have just got back from halfords, purchased a 6 sided impact socket and a can of shock/unlock so let battle commence, used trade card so just under a tenner not too painful hope I can say same when getting it off oh and might be wrong but think might be able to get socket between prop as impact socket isn't as long as other one
 
Update.....finally mission accomplished feel like I've been in the ring with Mike Tyson mind but the feeling when you achieve what you set out to do is bloody great, went the prop off route but the drain plug still wouldnt shift so got me thinking cap on and dragged a 3 ton bottle jack under landi used half the tubular arm off jack handle for extra leveridge on the socket ratchet and placed on jacking cup hey presto a few pumps of jack and it cracked the seal. All that needs doing now is replace prop tomorrow when I get 8 new nuts for prop bolts.

Lol, A lot wiser now so next time will be no probs, as for signs of thread lock dont know what the signs are neilly
 
True, one of the truths about Landi maintenance, we all end up a l'ill wiser after it is done, Another is , we normally bleed a l'ill during the maintenance, LOL.

Is there a blue or red substance on the threads?

I haven't checked the plug as it dropped in the container which promptly filled with the old fluid, didn't retrieve it because of new plug purchased
 
Glad you got it sorted. Although I'm going to take the credit for inspiring you with my spanner and bottle jack method, your socket and trolley jack method looks a lot better and safer. :):D
 
well I learn something new every day on this forum! haha! glad you managed to sort it, I havnt changed my gearbox oil for about 3 years I reckon it will be about ready however last time I remember trying to undo the fill plug first and it wouldn't budge, im sure I used several extension bars and an impact gun from about the driver seat yet the drain plug came nice and freely!
 
Yes great relief it was too to finally do it, then the very next day the rear wheel bearing went.
Hope ya don't have the trouble I had Robbie when you get round to changing gear box oil.

Well at least they are not boring. LOL.

My alternator went last week, when I went to take it off, found bottom bolt would not undo, had to drill it out, while taking the radiator off to gain access found a small leak in the bottom coolant pipe that had been repaired with tape. All good fun.

That's true neilly, I must say though in the 14 years I've owned mine it's been very reliable.
