is the r380 gearbox in a defender 300 same as a disco unit?

I believe so, the Defender bellhousing is shorter though.

the disco box has a longer input shaft due to the bell housing being longer

you can buy a shorter shaft but its gearbox to bits job. whats it going into?

mates 300 tdi 90 the gearbox is like stirring a bucket o bricks

MIght be worth checking the bias plate and springs/nylon bush at the base of the gearchange lever before buying a full gearbox.

that will be the ball linkagey thing on the top. That is where the gating is done, so that affects how sloppy it all is.
