Hi
I need to replace two front tyres on my TD4 for MOT. I've got wranglers on that were on when i got her. From reading here wranglers don't get great press. I don't think i can aford a full set of four just now so what do you think would be the best option for the front for now and i can replace the back in a few months. I do a lot of road miles on main roads and a lot of country miles with some moderate off road. I live rurally so snow and ice are also common.

Some one is sure to correct me if im wrong, but i understand that new tyres should always go on the back, with the part worn back ones moving to the front.
Something to do with transmission 'wind-up'?

You're correct Russel. Perfectly safe to only renew two of the tyres as long as new go on the back and used go on the front.

I also recommend the General Grabber AT2's, have them myself and they're great value for money.

Go easy Mad Hatter, OP's a woman, if she don't know how to drive, she won't know how to search :D Only kidding, welcome to the forum!
 
I have now got avon ranger AT's all round only £60 each including fitting with a free tyre guarantee at the moment from tyre shopper,(I dont work for them by the way!). I am very impressed so far, really good in the mud, quiet on the roads with good handling and brilliant in the wet, far better than the wranglers that were fitted before.

@Russel thanks for the advice, i didn't know that.
@ Mad, I did search and there is a lot, i found that there was a lot of abbreviation and talk that required a bit of background and threads that were just chat and craic, this is my first 4X4 so it can be a bit tricky trying to decipher the lingo, and after all as Freebiker says, i'm a woman, so as i'm also doing 6 other things while trying to sort new tyres, i felt it more expedient to politely ask you single focused men directly :D

:DWay to go Jude! Love the reply.Like me your new to 4x4s but stick with the searching and you'll pick up a lot of the lingo.You'll also get to know a lot of the bods on this site,and the way they answer.Then after a while you too can rib the newbies;)!

No problem...I too am a FL 'newbie', but against all odds, it's great and I love it.
As Skillwizz says, stick with the site, and you'll get all the info you need, from folk that are passionate.
Them pesky 'tractor boys' can be a bit irritating at times...but it is all harmless banter.
 
I love my FL too Russel, and I love this site, the recommendation for a MAF kit from rover ron transformed the cars performance and saved me a fortune!
Meanwhile, I was not able to get any of the recommended tyres in my size 15" at short notice so rather than fail the MOT my local (and trusted) tyre supplier recommended lassa competus for £45 each including fitting. I plan to get a set of four General Grabbers before winter, but so far these seem grand and are quieter than the wranglers.
