My 90 has too much oil in, and has been run on the wrong type. I bought a new oil filter, 7 litres of the correct oil and a tin of Diesel engine flush.

The oil is a fair way above the dipstick when checking it. Theres around a litre and a half too much in. Should I drain some before adding the engine flush before the full drain? Thanks.

what was the wrong oil type? What engine?
 
If my oil level was too high I'd be checking for water and diesel in the oil after draining it. I have had a vehicle in the past which had the wrong dipstick in, so after you drain it check the volume drained, after filling with the correct quantity run the engine, stop it and let it settle, then see where it is on the dipstick and thats your benchmark for future level checks.

There is a Land Rover, can't remember which variant, may suffer from a olive moving at the base of the dipstick tube and upsetting the measurement of oil ...
 
Why? was there a difference in the dip stick tube fitting? OP has a 300tdi so should be good.

who says it is the correct dip stick in it? best way is like above, drain, new filter, fill with the correct amount,run let settle and then see what the dip stick indicates
 
in what way is it the wrong type ? id just drain oil and refill wouldnt bother with the flush
Assumed it was wrong type cause it's like water, super runny. How come not bother with the flush? Trucks new to me & not being sure when it was last serviced I thought it'd be a good shout

it may have diesel in it ,lift pump is often the cause if thats the case,its usually just paraffin based fluid which can remove lacquer thats best not to remove ,draining and just refilling even if done twice if you are concerned imo is a better way

Ok, thanks for speedy reply mate.
 
It wont take 7 litres you may get 6 in and the 200 is a real tosser to check as it has to be left standing for hours to be accurate.
As for the flush its not needed.
Cheap oil and filter often (5/6k) and it will literally last forever.
