Ere, BB, while we're waiting... How does one add oneself to LZIR?

Need your approx location, contact number (mobile for texts preferably) any specialist tools and/or equipment (recovery/trailer/diagnostics etc) in a PM

I've just got home with it thank you. Its been towed home i cant select any gears at all... it goes into gear but as i accelerate it just revs. If i get the clutch replaced this week locally, does anyone think it'd be possible to drive it to another location so i can get the gear box and transfer box replaced? Thank you so much for your help :)

you need to be sure of whats failed first ,quite a dear job if you replace gear box but ist clutch or an 1/2 shaft and poor linkage so it doesnt select diff lock

I'm going to have to have a ring round tomorrow to see if anyone can come and have a look i cant move it :( Thank you so so much for your help :)

Glad you're home if with a poorly Landy.

Doesn't make much sense to do the clutch and then change the boxes after. The gearbox (or engine) has to be removed to change the clutch anyway so you'll be paying twice for the same work.

Transport to where the box can be changed and clutch done while it's there makes more sense and cheaper

as said in a previous post the gearbox is in bad health anyways as is transfer box , I think shes better off using " onward travel " recovery as its free to get it to me , I will then fit the new bits and do some urgent welding , as shes a friend I wont be charging so shes saving £££ between that and welding compared to a garage

would this be the gearbox
end shaft stripped ?
mine has done 90,000 and its almost stripped
had really bad knocking noise when pulling away

was wondering similar scenario

however after now emptying the bucket of oil from sarahs gearbox I have found lots of needle roller bearings , defo from hers as the bucket was spotless before use

anyone have any idea where these come into this? they are from the box oil , I don't know intricate details about boxes such as what size bearings and where so any help is appreciated

pm jamesmartin.he's the man.;)

gears run on needle rollers about 2mm diameter, shaft run on taper rollers about 5mm diameter, most common fault for loss of drive is front l/s and m/s bearings disintegrating, stripping teeth of input and making 4th difficult to select

there we go I figured he might have the answer :)

this sounds like the problem as although the thrust bearing was noisy the clutch felt fine when I drove it on weekend , the bearings are the 2mm ones , so would that make it so it has no drive at all?

anyone have any ideas on how she can get the vehicle to Carmarthenshire /wales so I can replace the box for her? as im doing it free the cost of travel is still probably cheaper than a garage price for the required work: crank seal, spigot bearing, clutch , strip old box ,build up recon Ashcroft box,fit recon transfer box to that and fit to the vehicle

ps thanks jamesmartin :)

the needle rollers shouldnt make you lose complete drive, just specific gears, unless mainshaft shears behind 5th

apparently it has no drive in any gear with no noise , even if it is the clutch its not worth doing the clutch alone after finding bearings in the oil

anyone have any rough prices what the work in my previous post would cost to be done by a garage? just trying to help her find the cheapest option
