Hi all,

I'm rebuilding my 110, I've come across a small issue... I've replaced the chassis from the original '89 to a td5 type, as you may well know the fuel tank mountings are different both at the front fixings but more importantly the rear of the crossmember is completely different. Now do I weld on the old mounts and fabricate a bracket to bolt to the new style crossmember allowing me to use my original galvanised tank or do I buy all the mountings and a td5 tank?

Cheers all!

If your new chassis is galvanised I would be tempted to leave it as is. Start cutting and breaking the galv seal will introduce a way for the chassis to start corroding quicker than it would normally have. Plus I believe trying to weld on galv chassis is not recommended but I don't weld (yet) so that may be bull. Personally I would buy the correct mounts and tank but your money your choice.

Alternatively... can anyone shed any light on how the td5 fuel tank mounts? I'm looking at my parts catalogue but cant work out how the straps mount... any pics would be muchly appreciated :)

make the bracket for a 110 tdi tank and bolt it to the x member using the td5 tank cradle bolt holes
