Hi,

I'm currently looking for a used L322 Vogue 3.6 (model year around 2008) here in Germany and have already had a couple of test drives. Not having owned any Solihull product I found the task of checking out used RRs pretty daunting but glenbat's used L322 buying guide on this forum has helped me a lot. While looking at these cars I noticed a couple of things which I am not sure are normal and was wondering if somebody could confirm this for me:

1. In one car I noticed the windows all have the Pilkington and Land Rover logos in the corner except the front windscreen which just had the Pilkington logo. Is this an indication of a replacement?

2. In the same car I noticed the air suspension raised and lowered the front end of the car before the rear end? Is this normal or should the front and rear be raised and lowered together?

3. In another car I noticed the front seat heating only heated the left side of the seat and back rest (i.e. only your left buttock and shoulder got warm :)). Shouldn't the seat and back rest be more evenly heated?

Hi,

Going take some guesses.....

1 - As least its Pilks....check for leaks....

2 - It does that on a P38 so maybe is right on a L322

3 - Would have thought more even as in a P38

1) Sugessts the windscreen has been replaced. Not unusual.

2) The rear should raise before the front I believe, at least that is the case on a P38, it's to avoid dazzle if the headlights are on. It shouldn't go down much when switched off, but if you command a drop the front should lower slightly before the rear.

3)Heater elements have partially failed, a common fault.
 
The glass isn't an issue, the air suspension is working, although the pumps are a common failure, but cheap enough to have replaced.
Heater element is a pain in the arse 1 hr job.

Now check the important issue's like the gearbox, when was it replaced or rebuilt. If this hasn't been done & the vehicle is under 70,000mls, walk away or at least expect to put a gearbox on it!

Dare I ask how much a new box for the 3.6 TDV8 costs?

You were all right about the suspension, it raises the rear then the front not the opposite as I originally wrote.

a few quid :) nothing if you can afford to run one in the first place :D
 
Well I won't be driving mine to work everyday. It will be strictly for weekends and holidays so I hope the running costs won't go through the roof :).

What are the symptoms of a failing box? Anything you can do to reproduce them during a test drive?
 
Just give it a good test drive
Make sure the radios off so you can hear the noises
gearbox should change smooth, there should be no delay when selecting gears etc..
 
I test drove an '08 Vogue yesterday that had done 98000km or 60894 miles. The drive seemed smooth enough and all features worked. The only thing I noticed was a high pitch squeal when accelerating from very low speeds or from standing. Once the car got up to 30 or 40mph the squeal disappeared. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Could it be gearbox related?

Could be anything from the fan belt to the torque converter, the gearbox or a mouse trapped under the accelerator peddle. even the wife if she was with you:eek:
