Hi All,

My mate up the road from me has bought himself a very tidy D2 with the TD5 diesel engine on a Y Reg.

Couple of questions he has asked me to post for him.

1. he has a small gear leaver for the low range box, but does the D2 have diff lock or does it use traction control.

2. his air suspension behaves a bit strange, he presses the button on the dash to put the air suspension up, the front goes up but the back doesn't, then when he presses the button again to bring the suspension back down nothing happens the orange light on the dash just keeps going until he switches off the engine, when he fires it back up the light has gone off.

Ive never had a D2 so I don't know the air suspension system, can anyone explain exactly what is supposed to happen when you hit the air suspension button.

other than that he's got himself a very tidy Disco.
 
Does the gear lever go left right as well, mine does I have CDL, many do not

Air suspension, rear only, goes up an inch when pressed, then down when pressed again, engine running doors closed to test.

If faulty MAY be level sensors
 
Y- reg unlikely to have a CDL - lever just moves forward and back high to low, unless a previous owner has used the ashcroft kit or retrofitted a D1 lever. The internals should still be in the transfer box at 2001 (mine is!)

The front suspension is not on airbags, just springs. Is he sure the back isn't wired up the wrong way and goes down thus giving the illusion of the front rising? :)
 
As Difflock66 has already said, the air powered self levelling suspension only has air springs on the rear. The amount of suspension lift isn't that great, about an inch but when you're sitting in the driver's seat, it can appear that the front is rising as it's operating. I suppose that could be the nature of "Self Levelling" suspension.

Mine is a 2004 model and has just the Hi/Lo transfer box and traction control. I've not bothered to see whether the gubbins are in the transfer box for centre diff lock but I have been led to believe that they are there.

I have a couple of questions about the air suspension system on the D2,



So when we turn over the engine now we get the orange light on the dash permanently, when we press the air suspension button nothing happens at all with the air springs and the light on the dash just flashes.



This could be a knackered pump or a fuse that's blown, I don't know enough about this system I'm just guessing.



So question 1, where is the pump for the air suspension located.



2. How does the air suspension work on the D2, I need to know the process from start to end. I will look on google as well but let's be honest you lot know what you're on about.



Really appreciate the help, my mate is scratching is head 😃

It also looks like the suspension is on it's bump stops, I can't seem to find anything on google.

Hi, the SLS is simpler than the EAS, the warning on dash means there's a fault present, the easyest way would be to plug in a compliant tester that will point you directly to the issue, simple checks are fusible link FL9 in engine bay fusebox and swap relays R3(headlamp wash) with R5(compressor) to rule this out too.

for the compressor to work all the doors/taildoor must be closed but as long as there's a warning on dash the problem is within the system

you have attached how the compressor assy looks...it's under the LH side of the vehicle around the middle bolted to the chassis, to inflate manually unplug all the electric connectors there and give feed to the valves and compressor at the same time untill it's on level then let everything unplugged untill you fix it, check visually the ride height sensors cos one might be fubar'd

That's excellent mate, we were looking at the abs unit under the bonnet lol, my mate is taking his disco to a mechanic mate tomorrow so we will see what he comes back with.

That's brilliant, so I can now confirm its the off road warning light we have on constantly.

that's bad news, if the sensors are ok it might be an ECU fault... tester is needed, anyway don't mess with the system, especially with the sensors without disconnecting the battery first, that's important

Does it have to be a Landy specific tester or can you use a snap on or other run of the mill diagnostic tester.
