spannerz, in your first post you implied that you had fitted a pair of bigger tyres, is that correct or have you fitted a full set.

when driving in a straight line all the wheels turn at the same speed.

When turning the outside front wheel has to turn further than the inside front wheel. The same happens with the rear wheels but they will under cut the route taken by the front wheels. For this reason the diffs are unlocked.

If you engage difflock you lock the front and rear propshafts together. As the wheels are all trying to go around at the same speed and cornering means this can't happen, the transmission winds up like a coiled spring. When it can't take any more something gives out with catastrophic consequences.

If you engage difflock on a slippery surface the wind up is prevented when the wheels lose traction and slip. This is because any wind up is released everytime a wheel spins. On tarmac the wheels grip too well to allow them to spin, thus releasing the built up pressure.

tyres that are different sizes will be constantly winding up the transmission.

A big tyre rotates less times in a measured distance than a small tyre. This means that the speedo will show the vehicle covering less distance than it was. It also requires more power to turn a larger wheel.

In plain english...If someone counted how many small steps it took from one end of a football pitch to the other while another person took big paces. The big paces would be a lower number than the small ones.

ok i got ya, my first post said that i changed a "pair of tyres", just to clarify, all 4 where changed :D :D just making sure you realise that

thanx for your post i do apreiciate it :)

i don't think that is the problem with my landrover

do you think if i was to get a new set of AT tyres this would cure the problem? is it possible that the change in tyres could affect the mpg so much?

well wot av i missed then?
someboy else wanting technical know how, then gets the hump straight away when he dont get the ansa he wants straight away.fek him off to play on the other channel, saves us the bother then .

As I said earlier only way to be sure it has affected your fuel consumption is to fill your tank to the brim and then after 100 miles or so refill and see what you've used. Also if you have satnav use that to see how far out your speedo is. in both speed and distance travelled.

if you check my posts i've only slagged the slaggers :)

FFS these threads on here are for advice and suggestions..... not for slangin matches with various members,,,,,, if you aint gonna listen to reason when the guys are tryin to give you advice,,,,, you maybe better askin someone else.

will do, i'll def try using sat nav too.... seems that my top speed is a lot slower but that could be a miss reading :)

Jesus brainiac Im gonna have to type this real slow cos you wont get it other wise. Im gonna help you then you can go away and play with the nice children else where.
1. You say fuel use increases by 30-40%.You also say you dont know the MPG.So do you get 30-40% less miles?
2.What brand are your tires?Directional? On the right way?
3.What brand of tires did you have before?
4.Have you notiuced any signicificant handling/breaking/road noise differences since having em on?
5.Who fitted em?Are they repatuble?Experienced with landys?Cheap?
And we'll go from there.

Also me mum sez your cock is tiny.
