Ok, imagine I took leave of my senses, what would be involved in swapping out my current 4.0 V8 for a supercharged V8?

I know I would need to do various upgrades, but I just wonder what would need to be changed as far as electronics and such.

Indulge me, I'm bored 5hitless :(

Step 1: Get rid of the p38

Do an online jigsaw it will give you less headaches.
I know it sounds like a headache, but I just want to know about the BECM and such.

I've swapped many engines, diesel to petrol and petrol to diesel, but they were easy compared to this Pandora's box that is Range Rover electrics

Not impossible but highly involved.

Are you going to fit an original P38 Overfinch supercharged engine or Jag/Ford derived unit from a RR Sport or later L322?

Fitting a SC from on Overfinch P38 would be simplier......it should just drop straight in with a few minor fettles....not sure about gearbox the OF used mind you.

As for the later model engines....you'll need the various control units from the donor, find a way to fool the BeCM into thinking the original engine ECU is in place and then get it to talk to the gearbox ECU.....you'll no doubt encounter language and protocol issues getting the new ECU to talk with the ancient networks in the P38.

Can be done but not a good idea.

That is why when you have time on your hands it is much easier to do a very complicated online jigsaw. :D:D

Ha ha ha, thanks Wammers :D:p

Saint, that's basically the reply I was looking for.

It's just a pipe dream, but if I get a decent pay out for the damage to my lower limbs, I may have a few pennies spare in which to beef up George so I can have a bit of fun :D:rolleyes:;)

I simply wondered the easiest route to take and I'm guessing no one will want to break an Overfinch so a Jaguar unit might be the way to go. I wonder if the Jaguar box would fit or would it need to be a Range Rover unit? I imagine the diesel box is built for torque so would that be the way to go?

No the diesel box is weaker than the 4.6 petrol box. Diesel and 4.0 use the HP22. 4.6 petrols use the HP24 which is unrated.

So I'm guessing unrated could mean it would accept a greater amount of torque or they don't know how much more it could accept?

I don't know what the ultimate torque rating of the HP24 is but it's certainly higher than the HP22. It has more and larger drive plates in the primary clutch and stronger sprag clutches. Main fail on the HP22 are the sprag clutches.

Two suggestions, neither of which you will like o_O
1) seek psychiatric help.
2) sell your current steed & purchase your dream RR already professionally converted.

It's been clear I need professional help for years :p

I already "have" my dream charriot, I just wanted to have a little more annoyance under the bonnet to pee off VW clowns :D

Besides, my bro in law has a Super Charged which is about an 06, but it has rust, whereas George is currently free of that

Glad you took the first suggestion in the light- hearted way it was intended ;)
You might want to run your ambitions passed your insurers first & good luck with the project.

How would the Jag gearbox mate to the transfer box? Have to switch all engine ECUs and keys.

Don't think the 4.6 engine can take much more so ditch that.

On RR.net there's a guy in the States originally from Blackpool who dropped a 6.2 lump in. Easier to convert Thor or diesel as BMW already tricked the HEVAC etc into not needing the GEMS inputs.

Super charged. Fuel ecomony. Are you on drugs.

I've driven a few super charged range rovers & after the initial £10 worth of fuel to start the fecker you can watch the fuel gauge moving as you drive.
