Hi

i have decided to put the in-line-stat housing in our Freelander 2003 TD4 Automatic (because of poor heating and low engine temp)
I tried to figure where exactly it would fit.
It doesn't fit in the radiator end, as the hose makes a 90 degrees turn and goes straight into the radiator.
It doesn't fit in the middle where that plastic T-piece is in the way (where there is a smaller pipe joining the top hose)
Only place would be in the engine-end. Even though it looks a bit on the shorter side...

very tight fit put the hose in boiling water first then fairy liquid in hose then big socket over new thermostat and knock into hose ,hope this helps mine still work fine in my auto td4

I read about this on another landrover forum, and a mechanic said that he has done this stat-directly-into-hose mod quite a few times but he wouldn't recommend it if you're pulling a trailer in the summer. He has apparently had 2-3 cases of Freelanders overheating when people have been pulling heavy loads...
Anyone have similar experiences??
Apparently the stat in aluminium housing would be better as that seems to allow more coolant to pass through

had my aluminium housing fitted in my top hose in my manual for ages and works great but then I don't tow anything.

why are people paying 65 quid for this when they can replace the original one in there car for more than half that price - yes it may take slightly longer to do the job but be better keeping car original ?
