Any chassis number issued by DVLA/Police should still be 17 characters long generally starting "SABTRVO..........."
And if issued with a Q registration it will show on the logbook as newer than 2002 as the new registered first date will be the date the Q was issued.

I would steer well clear.

I wouldnt buy it off you however nice and legit you seemed so think what will happen when you try to resell it! theres plenty out there.

Just phoned DVLA up ! Absolute no brainer ! They could'nt give a **** and were no help what so ever. Said that it was on a 1991 Q plate as the age of the vehicle could'nt be determined and the fact that it says engine 2286cc is because it's had an engine change and they have not been notified !

check things like back of the ashtray and the glass etc etc as these all have date stamps on them Also sections of the wiring harness will have labels with date of completion etc etc. Fone UK police and report it as stolen/ringer. Let them go round and hae a look at it.

Linky to site woukld be good.

The DVLA are not very helpful

it sound a bit dodgy to me, not sure what it like to register a vehicle in france but its a right pita here, anything suspicious on the VIN and they will refuse it, I know someone that has had a defender sitting in his garden for the last couple off years that he brought from the uk as the VIN was not clear enough.
