The ignition switch on my 93 Discovery 200 TDI is damaged, the barrel is worn and does not seem to return from position three, the start position, and one of the lugs holding the wiring loom on the end is broken and the connections come loose.
I want to fit a push start button with still using the key to turn the ignition.
I have a push button kit that includes a solenoid and I assume I can simply cut the starter feed from the Ignition switch to the existing solenoid and rewire a feed via my push button switch.
Of the 4 cables going to the ignition barrel which do I disconnect, it would help if someone could explain the wires
Large Brown Live Feed
Large White ??
Large White and Red ?
Small White and Red ?
Do I simply cut the existing feed from the Ignition switch to the existing solenoid thus stopping this method of starting.
Connect my new solenoid to the existing solenoid via the cable previously cut.
Connect power to my new solenoid and earth my switch to provide the circuit.
If this is the way to do it is there an issue that then I have 2 solenoids in series and secondly which is the cable that takes the power from the ignition switch to the solenoid.
OR have I got this all wrong
