Hey Ho

I have two Land Rover's and neither are presently working.

My question is that my beloved Discover II TD5's fuel pump appears to be dead.

29th May it stopped working and the AA informed me it's a common problem.

The thing is, I'm SKINT! There's a TD5 fuel pump on ebay but the description says if "should" fit a Discovery but it's from a TD5 Defender.

My question to you...the wise ones...will it fit AND will I be able to fit it myself?

I don't know if a Defender one fits but Allisport have a way of fitting a proper pump (Bosch) to the system that is capapble of delivering the fuel to the injectors. This will not fail. i have had 4 in tank pumps in as many months. it is a very poor design. by pass the lot and speak to allisport.

Im sure I've read somewhere that the pump is the same but the float arrangement for the fuel gauge sender unit is different. Ive no idea if you could use your original float unfortunatly......

If your interested I have a amost new pump which has done all of about 200 miles - I had a problem which turned out to be something else so I stuck the old pump back in....

 Hi

That's a kind offer. Do you think I'd be able to fit it myself? I've done plenty work on my 1972 Series Land Rover, but have never tackled fuel issues and have also never tried anything like that on Big Red the Disco.

The thing is, I'm sssooo reluctant to spend a fortune on it, as I need to hand the car back to the finance company, as I no longer need it. They need the car plus a few thousand from me to do that. That payment becomes a lot higher if they discover that the car has a fault.

What sort of cash would you be looking for, for the pump? The TD5 Defender one is on eBay for a "buy it now" price of £45.

Thanks for your offer, I'm interested and look forward to your reply.

Should you wish to get an idea of how much you would need to add on to your price for postage to Glasgow, try this link, I've found them very reasonable: Courier Quote - Shipment Details

Ken,

The pump is easy enough to change - 30 minute job, there are various bits of advice around this site and others about how to do it.

I'll PM you with a price.

Well, hello!

My eBay pump arrived today, and my Disco is in bits, well the trim is anyway.

I can't get the bloody top off the ring locky twisty bit holding the fooking pump in, the LR technical manual advises to use tool LRT 1900-9 or something similar. I don't have that!

Any ideas?

Ken

Large blunt flat screw driver and tap undone anti clockwise until loose (in reseses). When you tighten it back up ensure you fit the seal correctly and it is inside the pump lip, then push the top down and tighten clockwise. it takes a lot of turns to tighten so keep going until firm!

Hi Guys

Jeez, that was a hard job!

I did everything as you all suggested, and I'm pleased to say the TD5 . . . is ALIVE!!!

Many thanks to you all.
