Right back to the task in hand :D

Found that the butterfly valve on inlet manifold had been disconnected today so I reconnected that the best I could(need a spring clip back in one of the swivel joints) and then put my new speedo cable on,disconnecting the fuel gauge in the process and now can,t get it to work:doh:
So no further forward on the CAV pump setting up and beating tomorrow so can,t seeing it getting done til Xmas day :D

the butterfly not opening would cause poor running and smoke its only there to keep vacuum at low revs for servo

It's there to create vacuum at low revs for the brake servo.

It should close only when the throttle pedal is fully UP.

In these Landies, it is a good thing to lift the throttle pedal once in a while on long drives so that there is always full vacuum assistance available on the brake pedal.

Does your Landy have a vacuum tank? They are a good thing to fit.

Hello mate.
Did the slackening the pipes off and advancing it but I don,t seem to be able to stop her smoking!
Had her out on a 50 mile run today and the smoke was as bad as it is in a morning when she,s cold.

Hmmm.... what sort of smoke?

Black, Blue, White?

Are you SURE the butterfly valve is wide open in normal running?

Jam it WIDE OPEN and take it for a run
(but remember the brakes will soon run out of vacuum).

What you are needing to find out is the cause of the smoke.

You can probably do this by eliminating the possibilities one at a time.

Vacuum butterfly first.

More advance next.

After that we start worrying about serious stuff.

Jammed the butterfly open today and it made very little difference to the smoke situation :(
Didn,t get a chance to mess about with the pump again but one thing I did notice is that the tickover seems lumpy almost smooth and then a blip causing a little more of a puff of smoke than before?
Think the smoke is white too but there may be a blue tinge in it :rolleyes:
