Hi all.......yes it's me again. Thanks for the advice on the jack Honestly would not have dreamed of looking there...so that is sorted.

OK I did own a discovery 5 years ago v8 which I had running on gas and if I remember rightly it did not bounce a bit as much as my recent purchase at the front end when going over speed bumps etc.....as mentioned it might be me being a bit paranoid.

Thanks for the advice with regards to towing my caravan....I did read on here that when you convert back to springs that when you tow the front headlights point up into the air or something like that.

never really understood what the poster really meant......!!!

Sorry for being a bit of a pain in the arse folks but my mind is working overtime as to what I want to do / can do with the new disco.

Garage is being a right pain in the arse with the service history and the owners manual ( yes I did commit the cardinal sin & bought without the service history book ) cant understand why such a big delay or why the above was separated from the Disco in the first place...................

ARRRRGH! Oh dear, that's it... no more knowledgeable advice from LZ you called it a ......

hang on......

plucking up courage...

a....

JEEP

:boink::boink::boink: NO! NAUGHTY!!

:D

Back to the headlights pointing in the air phenomenon: Stick some weight on the back of the Landy and it goes down. Rear goes down so the front points up. Now the air suspension would compensate for this somewhat. However, is there not a rotary switch just above your right knee (when sitting in the Disco) which controls the tilt of the headlights? ;)

You don't know where the jack is? Try this one: Just after buying my Disco 2, I needed to put some diesel in it, stopped a few miles down the road at a garage... Could I find out how to open the filler flap? Nope.... only when the attendant (YES! Still an attendant-served petrol station in the UK!) reached into the car and pressed the button on the dash did I realise!

QUESTION A.....as my discovery no longer has air suspension will it still be OK to tow a twin wheeler caravan ??

QUESTION B.......If I wanted to ( if needed ) up grade my front shockers is there anybody in the North East that could advise me / carry out the work as I think its very bouncey at the front end...this is something I could not do...??

Putting those two comments together I'd check that the rear suspension has been altered correctly and isn't causing your front end issues before I'd leap into replacing the front shocks.

Just a thought.

Ha Ha morning people if anyone is still talking to me after calling the Disco a **** I have one thing to say I APOLOGISE...please give the benefit of the doubt I have only been on here about a week and learning fast.

I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. Please forgive me and keep the reply's coming , I have learnt so much of some of you guys on here already in such a short time.

OK their is a switch which alters the angle of the headlight beam when towing I am obviously going to want that switch set at the lowest angle to compensate for the extra weight at the back , I think we can put this little problem to bed now I hope.

Ok best thing I can do id get some shots on here of the disco & the rear suspension coil conversion and I am sure lots of you will be able to tell me in a milly second what has been done and how good the job is etc.

Without the manual as we speak I have done the diesel flap bit / the find the jack saga / took me 2 days to figure out how to fold the 2 small seats back up in the far rear.

Ok I have already admitted to a lot of silly things on here and actually called my disco something which has only four letters.............before I make myself out to be a bit of bigger tit than I already have done I will try and get some pics uploaded and then we can all move on together like one big happy family..........

Regards

David

OK folks I am going to be honest & up front & admit that I have jumped in head first into buying a discovery 2 on a 2000 plate. Had it 6 days & have to admit it was a bit of a shock getting used to it ( my previous car was a Volvo s80 d5 ) but I am glad I have made that choice as I need something to tow a twin wheeler caravan. Its not rocket science to see why I got a bit of a shock from my previous car as they could not be anymore apart but the more I drive it the more I am starting to fall in love with it & getting used to it as well. since buying it last week I have just found out ( through playing around with the buttons on the dash...still awaiting owners manual from garage...WHY don't ask ) that the air suspension has ben replaced with coil suspension ( WHY ONE MIGHT ASK GOOD OR BAD REASON )does not bother me at all just a little intrigued why this occurs...??? Anyway because of where I plan to go ( hopefully ) I would like some advice on some upgrading ( if needed ) on tyres / suspension even future repairs for that matter & any general advice on the discovery when needed. I live in Newcastle & would appreciate anyone local who maybe might be able to help with any of the above.

kind regards

David
Welcome to the dark side. Life will never be the same. And neither will your wallet. :D

Working on a schools cross country race tomorrow & after getting stuck for 3 hrs last year in the council van I have decided to use my disco, if the inevitable does happen I am right in assuming that I put her into neutral select L on the smaller lever & then back into drive going no faster than 5 MPH when in that gear........I know this sounds a pathetic question but as the owners manual is no where in sight I need to know really.

While I am on I am about to order new air / oil / fuel filters, seen the full kits for quite cheap ....is there anyone I should stay clear of and anyone that you could recommend ??

regards

David.......

Best to get into 4wd, not low, and before you get stuck ;)

Hi David, re 1. :

To get maximum traction you need to be in low ration as you said, PLUS centre diff lock (CDL) which ensures that the engine power is distributed 50/50 front and rear. To get into diff lock you slide the smaller lever to the left, until a light comes on the dashboard.

Then select 2nd gear on the main gearbox and drive gently - no specific speed limit.

Its a disco 2 my2000, so I am assuming no cdl? Unless been retrofitted.?

As it's a yr 2000 it will almost certainly have the CDL guts in the T-box, but perhaps not the linkage.

In that case you will only have traction control (TC) and it's important to understand the technique to ensure you get the best from it.

Use light to medium throttle pedal but most importantly it needs to be consistent pedal pressure so the TC can work it's magic.

Thanks, am picking up a my2001 disco 2 this week and have been looking up the process for retrofitting the cdl lever from a disco 1 :)

log onto euro carparts, put yer number in and it will bring the relevant parts up for a service, you can go for the cheapish filters or the better branded ones, oil aswell, your choice, i change mine every 12 months, only done 3k in last 12months, but we service everything regular, our choice!

Regarding the standard Disco tool kit; the jack, wheelbrace, jack handle and wheel nut security unlocking adapter thingy, the jack is in with the battery and the rest of the kit should be in a fancy little flat pouch probably stowed in the pocket on the rear door. There should also be somewhere some hard rubber devices which turn into a wheel chock.

Regarding the users handbook, if you don't have any luck with the place who sold you the Disco, you will find one as part of the RAVE download along with an almost inexhaustable amount of detailed information about your Disco. Endless hours of fun reading!!
