Hey all,

So after not buying the 90 I borrowed, I've now bought a lovely 2.4 110 Defender. I hear the standard immobilisers are rubbish - what would you recommend and who in the Birmingham / Midlands areas are good to fit them?

I would recommend Physical security rather than an immobiliser. a layered approach is the bets approach

Look at getting a tracker like defenderdefender or similar. Tracker UK are the best but price is high. Immobiliser and alarm is good but the alarm needs interior sensing and movement sensing anorl. Get the windows etched too.

Search on ere for clutch claw pedal lock type devices. Don't park it behind a hedge where it can't be seen. Secure the doors as they just unbolt. And bonnet.

After having 2 vans stolen my son-inlaw put a big heavy chain round the rear axle and locked it around a large tree, kept hold of his replacement van after that. Bit Mr Bean but it worked.

I faced this issue after my 300TDi was stolen. I now have a 2.4TDCi like yourself. Layers is the key - i have several - and won't go into the ins and outs. But deadlocks on all the doors is a must. I good pedal lock. Trackers are always helpful. There are few extra things - but a bit of research will go a long way. Google LRD security for some ideas. Layer up - I have spent a fair whack, which is annoying when you want to get 'cool' things for your defender, but TRUST ME - its not worth leaving security. ALL the things i have got for the car over £20 have been security so far - and I plan to add more.
