Hello Landyzone people,
I have registered with your forum to ask for one (or more) of you to identify a land rover prop shaft that is fitted to a fishing boat please?
I have measured the shaft which is making a terrible noise when the shaft rotates, the sizes are:
Overall length, flange to flange and fully extended = 700mm.
Retracted length, flange to flange and fully retracted = 655mm.
Flanges are both 87mm diameter with a 52mm inner shoulder and four boltholes each, between two hole centres = 53mm and the other two between centres = 45mm, the "pipe" shaft is 51mm in diameter, the rod is 22mm in diameter, the socket is 35mm in diameter, one of the universal spicers has a grease nipple and the socket also has a grease nipple. I would like to replace this shaft some time soon so if there is a supplier of second hand units, can you please let me know as well please?
The boat that the shaft is fitted too is quite old and I have no idea how old the shaft is, any help from you all would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks and all the very best,
Alan................

Hello again,
Many thanks for your suggestions, I might just go down the universal joint route instead of the full shaft change.
Thanks again,
Alan.............

or in my case the shoe at the end of the prop haft was twisted slightly, meaning the U-joint would not come out.

£80 later I was back on the road :(

Theres always one! Shouldn't be working too hard in a boat as its always in a fixed position with an inboard engine and no axles going up and down changing UJ angles.

Hello again,
I've taken the universal joints out and have suitable replacements on their way. I have ordered joints with grease nipples fitted to try and prolong the life a wee bit more.
Once again, many thanks for all your help.
All the very best,
Alan..............
