You said you pulled the pump off the engine and it looked OK....

Did it have a metal or plastic impeller??

Plastic ones work loose from the shaft and don't spin efficiently and don't move much coolant around! They look good to the eye, and even with a spin by finger, but once load/pressure is applied, the impeller slips on the shaft.

Also check the radiator....there should be an internal baffle that directs the flow through the rad.

They have been known to be missing on cheap rads or break off on old rads.

Take rad out, invert, place a marble in one inlet and see if it rolls to the other side....if it does, rad naff, if not, time to look else where.

Wammers I know I cant run it for corsa prices and I expected that what I don't want to do is spend out £250 to 450 on the plate 40 to 50 quid on a new tensioner bracket and then find out the head is U/S and end up spending £500 or so on a new one I don't mind spending the money that's not the problem but I only want to spend it once
Saint.v8 water pump had the plastic impellor

If the pump is still off the engine, take a closer look and see if the impeller is affixed sufficiently to the shaft.

It was but I destroyed it to be able to remove the fan
I take it that you checked the fan before you changed the pump? For anyone who doesn't know, run till warm and try and stop the fan with a rolled up newspaper. If you get confetti then it's ok.:)

The Sun when first launched was a Tory version of the Daily Mirror. Instead of Garth it had Scarth. Instead of live letters it had Livliest letters. Only good thing about it was the tits on page three. :D:D
