Forgive my ignorance, but Im newish to the joys of Defender ownership.

I have an ex-cop Defender 90 TD5 (2000) – lovingly called Moby because its white and whalelike – with rather rusty standard steel wheels with a mix of tubed tyres.

Since buying it 1 year ago I have had at least 6 flat tyres and Im getting tired of it. Im not keen on any of the Defender alloys (I prefer the original look) and Im thinking the solution is to switch to tubeless. Ive got my eye on a set of tubeless steel wheels (RRC 503 600) with 7.50R - 16 Michelin Tubeless tyres from a 2005 110, but I dont know how reliable these tubeless steel wheels are.

Any thoughts or opinions would be much appreciated.

confused????
u say you have a mix of tubeless tyres and fed up wiv punctures..then you say you want to switch to tubeless???

As I read it he clearly says tubed...

If ye've got tubes with tubeless tyres ye'll get punctures from the roughness of the tubeless tyres rubbin' on the tubes. Get yerself a set of tubeless rims and stick with tubless tyres.
For more tyre choice, get the 235/85/16's... same size as the 750's

My current wheels are tubed (and rusty)... with tubed tyres.

just buy a set of good quality tyres already mounted on steel rims. Loads about, just pin the size and tread pattern and your sorted.

Like has already been said. If you tube a tubeless tyre, sooner or later it will rub through. I run tubeless tyres mainly because tubed tyres let the air out much quicker in the event of a puncture. I also carry a spare tube around with me aswell as my spare wheel cos you never know when you might get 2 punctures when laning.

rust in the wheel rims will chafe thro tubes [grit blast & hammerrite 2cure]

When I brought my new AT2's, I was advised to remove completely any makers stickers inside the tyre, these rub against the tube and puncture it, apparently.
Although I'm running tubeless, I removed these just in case I needed to fit a tube one day.
