Our lovely RR 4.6 - N reg. is having a bit of an electronic nightmare. Since we had it it flashed up that it has an alternator fault (it didn't and the person we bought it from is reliable) - it was occasional and we accepted it as an eccentricity :rolleyes: - However we now have a problem with the suspension which seems linked to the car 'thinking' the sunroof is open.. namely that the suspension is set on the loading height and the flat road setting (no idea what this is really called) flashes all the while. Obviously this is a major problem that can sometimes be solved by piddling about with the sunroof and then restarting and sometimes it is not sortable and a massive problem. It has been checked and had some 'connections' cleaned (not sure what this means but I reckon you would know...) and it improved for a while but really turning into a glitchy horror and really worried it is the computer thingy that costs a bomb - Apart from marvelling at my grasp of technical terms/mechanics, I wondered if anyone else had this problem and if they could offer any advice. Praying that this is not fatal or prohibitively expensive to fix as this car is much loved. Catey
 
Check the under bonnet fuse box for signs or smells of burning. Pull each relay out in turn, look for contacts that have blued with heat and melted plastic.
 
Sunroof and Suspension are not linked in any way. You have two issues. The sunroof will probably be fixed by disconnecting the battery and resetting the roof and windows - read owners manual on correct way to disconnect your battery.

The suspension is suffering from most likely, a worn pump perhaps caused by leaks or just old age. Nothing to scary to worry about.
 
Have checked the connections (manshape not me....) - would the worn pump also mean the light is lit for loading and flat road is flashing ???
 
Hi, and welcome. Yes, as has already been said, the fact the light is flashing means its trying to get up to the height of the button that is flashing. You`ve probably got a leak in the system meaning that air is escaping. If you couple this with the fact that if its been like this a while, your compressor is probably weak, or not kicking in at all. Check for leaks first, then if no leaks you can mov e to the next stage of seeing whether or not the pump or various other things are working correctly. Some soapy water and a squeegy bottle will do that for you at no cost at all. Also have a look on the internet and download the RSW solutions EAS software and get yourself a lead off ebay so that you can clear any faults and read your fault codes. Good Luck.
 
yes ,as pump cannot raise car to next height so keeps flashing as it tries,worn eas pump
it sounds like.
 
Ok that is such a relief to know it is probably something mechanical rather than the computer thingy - honestly I have been so worried about it - I can live with all the glitchy stuff and eccentricities but this was worrying me such a lot that it could be something really serious. I have a Disco II ( the sensible choice) and this is my husbands car, it has always worried me that it is so technical (for want of a better way to put it). We love this car so much, it is a ridiculously expensive indulgence but every time we drive it it seems worth every penny. Thanks to you all for the advice and reassurance.

don't worry, it'll be a fast learning curve and no its not fatal.:p

but please try to get someone who is familiar with the air-suspension to give you a hand. there are two systems at work here; one is electrical, one is pneumatic and both rely to an extent on mechanical bits. so you have to be extremely methodical or you'll soon be going in circles which can quite quickly become expensive.
