Ok so I understand that if u drive slower u get better mpg (motorway) but I've just done the same journey and done it in quarter of a tank:confused::confused::confused:! the first 50 miles was done at 70-75 mph and the fuel consumption didn't seam to improve, I dropped it down to 60-65 mph and it improved massively, being the previous owner of a Nissan pulsar gtir and a mk3 Astra gsi u can understand I like having a lead foot! Now could this ' lead foot ' be the problem?? As its Christmas I can't realy afford to brim the tank :(:(!!

The power issue and engine management light issue, seem to have been cured.

It seems to be running sweet as n it's pulling through all the gears sweet enough.

Any more info u people need just shout.

The K series really starts to display a drinking problem when you start cruising at 65mph or over IME. Not sure what engine you have but remember that the IRD and weight of the car makes the MPG figures hugely different to other cars with the same engines.

get a battery car, which everybody says are good for the enviroment ,BUT they are NOT if people realised how much they take to make, and all the making of them gives nasty emissions into the air and how much it costs to charge them , well i will never buy one.

I know to think of what them awesome cars would do to the environment compared to the sensible motors we drive lol:director:

So I think I may have found A solution to the fuel issue, I've removed the synthetic sleeve that is fitted around the air filter (which was filthy), refit the filter and took it for a spin. It seems to be running a lot smoother now, too soon to tell but I dare say it will improve fuel economy, only time will tell.

Am I understanding you right here - you didn't renew the filter - you just threw away the sleeve bit and refitted the same filter?

I would have thought that if the sleeve was bad the filter would be bad too.

Singvogel.

The old one is back in and it as been cleaned, it's running better so can't b all that bad, and its only til after Christmas when I go ooop narth n get access to cheap parts

Eurocarparts everywhere are pretty cheap and don't have to be nasty.
They have Guttman air-filters which work out at £11.03 inc VAT if you use a club discount, along with the magic 'click and collect' then pay in store.

They are amazingly cheap on-line like that - much cheaper than if you walk in and ask for the parts - then you get 0% discount not the 25 or 30% available on line.

Can you really get cheaper than that?

If so tell me where.

SV.

I guess not, i was expecting more than that to be honest, I will get right on it cheers.

Fuel, oil and air filter coming 2morrow less than £45 with postage. Not bad I suppose, just got to get to the bottom of 2 of the 3 amigo problem now

Fuel consumption is worse now, 57 miles per quarter of tank, starting to f**k me off!!! Had hdc and tc light come on dash this morning. I've checked ALL fuses and bulbs, had a look at the brake switch and can't seem to get it off (after turning it in every direction mm's at a time). I've got no brake lights and it feels like the brakes (rear) are sticking!

What may have caused by me:

Recently tightened hand brake cable.
Gave its first PRESSURE wash.
Had its first bit of wading (just over a foot deep).

Could any of these have caused it? Will find out in the morning as its booked in for a diag.

Been the owner of this hippo less than a month and I've had loads go wrong with it n it's starting to wind me up.

Rant over, I know it's in the wrong forum but any previous experiences would b appriciated.

Cheers mike

Also it will be having a service 2morrow when the parts arrive (fuel, oil and air filters) so that might cure the fuel thing

have a look where the hand brake cables are next to the hand brake have you knocked the wiring to the gravity switch off ,it is easy done "i did it" and that will show the amigos.also if you have tightend the hand brake cable then this could cause the brake on feeling . to adjust the bake brakes there is a gromet on the inside of the hub unit, take it out and shine a light in there you will see a ratchet give it a couple of clicks this is how to adjust them properly, and if your brakes are sticking on up will go the fuel comsumption. hope this helps.

Will check the gravity off switch, is it easy to figure

Well the hippo is in the garage this morning, and it doesn't wanna be in there all day as they have given me a ****ty old s reg Peugeot 306 courtesy car

Hate to admit this, but our fuel consumption went crazily high....front brakes binding and I guess it's due to the floods in our lanes, still got a 15" reservoir on one part..Crap got into the caliper, rather 'quick' wear on the pads & hot steaming alloys!!!

My front calipers have seized this year too! Ref rear brakes. You should let off the handbrake adjust the shoes correctly then the handbrake!
