sorry for being lazy as this has probable been covered.

i removed the egr, with a 'proper kit' from ebay. hadnt really used the disco due to doing boot floor and using company vehicles etc. was a bit of a pain to start at the works yard where i was keeping it, but used it for a short hack last night and bought it home.

this morning (-6 c) it refused to start, almost draing the battery so i thought i would ask and plea for some info on here!

has anyone else had issues after this simple mod? anything i can do to rectify (bar putting egr back on!!!)

any help would be appreciated

cheers

Unlikely to be related to the egr, probably time for some new glow plugs.

I presume you turn on ignition and wait till glow plug light goes out before turning it over with a little pressure on the accelerator.

egr would have no effect on starting at all ,check glow plugs work by removing them and testing with jump leads ,check leak off pipes arent leaking ,check fuel system isnt sucking in air ,best way is clear plastic pipe in between fuel filter and front banjo on injection pump ,4 most likely trouble spots is sender unit under boot floor ,sedimentor behind chassis rear rh wheel filter and lift pump

everything was absolutely fine until i took the egr off, even after leaving for 2 weeks untouched started first try, first flick of the key even!!!!

bit baffled........ :-(

^ and did you block vacuum pipe

can i ask a question please: i have removed my egr and after reading on here to block the vacuum pipe i have but i have 3 pipes and only 1 seems to now being used as i removed it a while back am unsure if the egr had to vacuum pipes but i think not can any one tell me what the other one is for. also i have fitted a snorkel so maybe something tho do with that

sorry for hijacking post its a one off i promise :hijacked:

I suppose that yours is an E2 engine then which uses just one vacuum pipe... the other one is for E3 engines cos the E3 EGR has an ILT valve too. As long as they're blanked to not lose vacuum it's OK

Sounds like weak battery, coupled with - temperatures. If you had
it out last nite with heater, lights ect on may have put extra strain
on the battery, especialy if it hasent been ran for a while.

First thing id do is give it a trickle charge for a few hours and check battery conections are clean and tight.

EGR will have no effect at all on starting.

Kev.
