Just took delivery of a new Defender 90, within the last four weeks.

Idler part had to be replaced last week because of high pitched squeaking noise. Part replaced, but noise started again two days ago, so back in for repair.

Also detected rattling noise below front passenger seat when engine switched off. Dealer tells me that this is the EGR valve working in the cold - is he right?

I'd appreciate any helpful comments on the above.

Thanks

David

I seriously doubt its the EGR valve rattling below the seat. The EGR valve directs exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold and is normally bolted to the the inlet manifold under the bonnet. Also it does nothing when the engine is not running, is cold, or at full throttle.
Sound like BS to me.

I'd ask them to show you the EGR valve and see what they point at.
Ask them how it works. I bet they dont know.
