Hi All,

Been having a strange problem with my fuel gauge, in that a few weeks ago it decided to go from 1/4 to 3/4 and then full - great you think - free fuel! But alas no fuel was put in.

Took out the sender as it looked worn and put in a new one - but it is still reads high.

Any thoughts - and if it is related, the indicator light on the dash now seems rather dim - maybe an earth issue with the instrument cluster, but unsure to which earth I would need to address.

Hi, if it was an external instrument pack earth issue all the gauges and warnings should have been affected cos it's one for all, I'm affraid that your problem is within the IP or if that dimmed indicator issue is coincidental it's something on the wiring between the sender and IP ... what if you unplug the sender, does it go to empty with warning on?

Yes, if I unplug the sender unit, then gauge drops to zero and the low fuel light comes on

There is a connector on that circuit which can suffer from corrosion or water ingress and mix up the reading(C407) if you can find it check it inside and give it some contact spray, if this doesnt help i'm afraid the problem is in the IP
